PDP has two manufacturing facilities. One is in Mexico and the other is in China. It's my understanding that they share the workload depending on PDP's current demands.
My guess would be that they're made in China. In my experience PDP makes quality drums and they should compete very well with similarly priced Tama and Mapex drums. In the end it'll come down to the sound you want from your drums. I would suggest going into a store and playing some X7s, Mapex Meridians, Tama SS Accel-Drivers (and others you may find in the same price range) to see what you like better. The X7s are maple and so are the Mapex Meridans, so they should be pretty similar. The Accel-Drivers are made out of birch which is a wood I personally prefer because of its attack (fits the music I play) but will it work for you? Only you can make that decision. You did mention you're looking for a kit to play rock music and birch is loud and aggressive, perfect in my opinion. So go check 'em out and you'll know which ones to buy after you play them. |

Correct, DW closed their factory in Mexico. The X7 were always made overseas (Taiwan, I believe) as is their entire product line now.
The only Pacific drums that were built in Mexico were the LX, CX, and later the Platinum line. |
