Based on that description, no, it's worth about the $100 your dad paid for it. Maybe $150 on a good day on ebay.

The only Zildjians that go for really big money are older K Zildjians from the 1940's-50s-60s.
And then only if they sound good.

The zildjian line that has a star pattern and a really big Z is the "Z" series, which came out in the mid-1980's.

I still have my 20" Z Heavy Power ride from that era, and I love it. But it's not that rare of a cymbal.

If we're talking like an 8" bell, then it's a Z series mega-bell ride which came out in like 1990.
It did indeed have a star patten on it.

Measure the diameter of the cymbal to determine the size.

As DED said, $150 to a man with deep pockets on a sunny day. Expect $100 and anything over is a lucky bonus. As stated, it is neither from the 70's, nor is it worth anything close to a grand. The seller speaks with forked tongue mate.

Here's what a couple of those have sold for on eBay recently. You may not make hundreds of dollars reselling it, but at least you didn't get ripped off-- assuming it's in reasonable condition. You got lucky this time, but when you buy without doing your homework first you're pretty much begging to get screwed.

This is clearly a case of a little information can be a dangerous thing.I'm sure you've heard the saying that "not all that glitters is gold".Well not all that is Zildjian is expensive, and in some cases, just downright crap. That goes for just about everything, but its epecially true in this case.

Yes there are some older discontinued models,as well as old vintage K Zildjians, and what are known as trans stamp cymbals the are highly collectable, and bring big bucks.

And all of them are stamped Avedis or K Zildjian, and its takes a while to know how to seperate the "wheat from the chaf".As an example a Zildjian B-8,and a trans stamp 18" crash, will both be stamped Avedis Zildjian, and if dirty, will both look vintage, yet one is worth a LOT more than the other.

You kind of got lucky this time.Even people that sell musical instruments for a living, get screwed every day by copys, counterfeit, and altered instruments, from a fast talking guy,who is a con,or actually really dosen't know what he's talking about. Then he sells you a cymbal worth 1000 for ONLY 100?Really?

Do yourself a favor and check with the forum first, and post clear pics, before buying again.
