Default Gretsch Round badge black diamond kit missing floor tom

Hey guys I was given my grandfathers old gretsch round badge kit from the 60's and its in very good condition. I like it better than my current set up as well. It has a 20" bass and a 14" snare plus the ride and high-hat. It all has the black diamond finish and all of the original heads! I was wondering if it wold be worth it to scope out a floor tom to complete the kit? If it is not the original that came with the set how much does the value decrease? Also does anyone know which size floor tom was made with this kit?
All help is appreciated!
Rob

the floor was most likely 14" if it is a 60s kit

is it 3 or 6 ply?

does it have a tom holder and consolette?

does it have a cymbal L arm?...or at least the holder?

can you please post some pics?

sorry Im a vintage Gretsch addict !!!!

Typically, if it has a 12" rack tom, it would have a 14" floor tom. If it has a 13" rack tom, it would have a 16" floor tom. My round badge kit, is a 20, 13, 16.

If it's truly a 60's kit, it will be a 6 ply
There's no way to really tell how the kit came from the factory. People ordered the sizes they wanted, even back in the 60's. And if a store had two kits in stock, it was very common to swap sizes, at the customers request
As far as "adding" a floor tom, to increase the kits value, "buying" a floor tom is an expensive proposition, in and of itself. Sure, the kit will be worth more, but you might have to spend $700-$800 (or more) for the floor tom. Here's a 16x16, with a BIN of $899 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-GRET...ht_5951wt_1185 I'd add the floor, simply to make the kit more playable.

I am planning on playing this kit not selling it but I was just wondering. But will it be hard to find a black diamond floor tom is the next question? Because the one you posted it sparkle something or other but I am willing to spend some money I'm just not sure how much.

Finding a matching floor, will be a waiting game. And of course, the more places you look, the sooner you might come across one. In putting together some of my kits, I've waited months, and sometimes over a year, to find/score that missing drum.
My round badge kit (20, 13, 16) ran me $1500. They ain't cheap, but well worth the price of admission (my opinion, of course). Watch eBay. It would certainly be cool, to have your grandfathers kit up and running.
