Default Disturbing metal news from Prague

I can hardly believe this:

http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/...701-21b3q.html

One minute the singer's having a fun night gigging, the next minute he's arrested for murder. What a nightmare! Pushing an obnoxious fan away doesn't strike me as illogical behaviour if the fan lost control and was hurling himself at band members. I guess the court will look into the amount of force used.

All parties were unbelievably unlucky. You'd think the mosh crowd would have broken the fan's fall.

Normal reaction for anyone to push back on someone getting in their face. Where was security? Should have never happen in the first place.

Horrible stuff.

I can totally understand him trying to get the guy off the stage (especially after having climbed up there three times!). Randy might well have been frightened too. It's only been a few years since Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed on stage, so you just never know what someone's motivations are in these situations.

What a sad and strange accident. At the same time, this would have been just the kind of situation that would have been in Spinal Tap. Not so funny when it happens in real life, though.

It's tragic and very sad.

I agree with Nodigie, it shouldn't happen in the first place in this time and age, security services are not a luxury nowadays, it's a safety requirement for both parties, the musicians and the audience.

I've read numerous articals on this, and have been following this story since day one.
Apparently, that wasn't even the first time the fan rushed the stage. He rushed the stage three times, the third time security being unable to reach him in time. By means of self defense and to get the rowdy fan off stage, Randy pushes him off.

First off, that's mainly a problem with security. THEY were the ones unable to reach the fan. And, it's their job to push and shove people off. If a security member where to have done this, would the consequences been the same? Surely, do to the lack of evidence, they are going to attack Randy because he is the one with more money.

Secondly, this as been said numerous times, but musicians should have the right to defend themselves on stage. Especially after Dimebag was shot right in the middle of a show. Also, had this been an American event, the venue or security probably would have been sued. If someone was being shoved off stage, wouldnt the proper thing to do would be to CATCH THEM? Did everyone flee and thus have him land on his head? At any metal concert, rule numero uno is to ensure the safety of a brother in the pits. I find it absurd that noone would have tried to break this guys fall. Although, even if they did, it could have been a sirious case of whiplash and thus somehow causing death. But then, that shouldn't be Randy's fault at all, bringing it back to the venues problem.

On the other hand, posting bail doesn't always ensure immediate release and there are other stipulations tacked on at times if the judge feels you may be a flight risk. It's not too much different than what we deal with here.

As an avid Lamb of God fanboy, I hope to see Randy charge through this and get on with it. They are set to tour this fall and by no means am I planning on missing this show just because some jackasses in the Czech court system want to place full responsibility of this fans death solely on Randy.

what a shitty situation

I`ve been reading all the shitstorm of comments over the internet on this subject over the past few days. Anyone who`s been to a metal concert of festival knows metalheads have a slightly... different way of having fun. Headbanging, moshing, stage diving, etcaetera. Usually on big venues like this was, there`s a 2-3 meter barrier between the fences from the first row and the stage, where the bouncers are put to keep people from getting on the stage.
You can`t even pass the fence without being blocked by a bouncer that`s gonna escort you out of the venue place. I seriously can`t imagine how the guy managed to do a second and even third attempt to climb on the stage, not to mention that he eventually did it! What was the security doing in all this time? Seriously, i`m not a big Lamb Of God fan (except for Chris Adler), and i`m not taking Randy`s side, but it was his right to punch or throw the guy out of the stage IF the security fails to do their job. He belongs to the stage, that kid belonged to the audience, and i guess things are pretty clear.

Randy definitely had help and I don't find him guilty of anything. It was in no way intended as a murderous push. I hope they get a judge who will see this for what it is, a person doing something really dumb, and surprise, a human reacted out of instinct, and things didn't have a safe ending. You can't stop instinct.. It was an accident that he didn't land well.

Now he can't reproduce. Nature's way of weeding the garden if you ask me.

It was a knee jerk reaction on the bands part to that particular situation. It's pretty cut and dried. The floor wasn't an unsafe distance down, and there were plenty of people around who you think would have helped break the guys fall... Simultaneous breakdown of multiple things, stupidness on the deceased's part, then security ultimately failed, then no other concertgoer helped, and the deceased himself didn't do his part in breaking his own fall, and he came in on a bad bad angle. Almost like it's karma time for this guy. I'm curious to his background now, was he just a regular kid who had a bad night or did this guy have it coming.... The band's knee jerk reaction was unavoidable and not their fault.

The vid tells the whole story.

I read that club had a big stage diving scene. So the mosh crowd wouldn't have lacked practice catching people flying off the stage, but the guy was travelling head first. Maybe someone suddenly found this head and elbows hurtling at them and freaked out?

Or it could have just meant that they did atleast attempt to break his fall, but not ensuring the safety of the way he landed on his head. Freak neck deaths occur man, Cliff Burton died like that,

But that, by no mean, should be Randy's fault. I didn't see Metallica suing the bus driver because he couldn't pull off his manuever in such a manner. Even with the benefit of the doubt, and the Prague fans did try to atleast help the guy, it shouldn't be Randy who suffers. It was just a freak accident, and no man should be held accountable for it because of said reason. Shit happens, and sometimes the only person to blame is yourself (or, themselves). That fan rushed the stage previous times, perhaps if he'd had either A) not done so in the first place (knowing the risk involved in such activities), or B) had chosen a different moment to do so. Not his fault in that way either, because it was by just purely an impulse, but it can be ruled out that if it's not his fault it may has we'll rule out Randy, because that was just impulse as well. The whole thing is just a ridiculous, and hay-wire situation.

Randy has been denied bail..... I saw a clip on the net and... it looks like nothing more than a standard push fan off stage back into the pit scene. Just pure bad luck.. and sad.
