I was looking for a shuffle song we were playing last night and came across this Charlie Hunter song called the Percussion Shuffle. It's pretty cool.

I'm not listening to anything at the moment. Just the sound of silence. I was at work all day (I work retail on the floor), dealing with customers from many different parts of the world. It's a challenge to deal with people from obscure parts of the world because of their accents.

Hard-Wired by Dave Weckl.

Another bout with Insomnia... sometimes Crazy Dave can bludgeon me right out of consciousness. Problem is is that I get insomnia often enough to where now I can lay in bed and mentally air drum a good chunk of this stuff, whereas before all his dizzying tricks were enough to knock me out. Man, he's a really good drummer...

Agree. I think his voicings, tone and supportiveness are a big part of what made the band sound so superb. He and Elvin seemed to have ESP.

there is an old story that goes something like.......

some young musicians were talking to Elvin and asking him how the Coltrane group plays together so well and with such intensity.....and Elving replied
....you gotta be willing to die with a mother f***er

the young guys all laughed for a bit and looked to Elvin for the punch line.....only to realize he was dead serious

love that story

Sounds like they were in the trenches! I guess he was talking about trust and support. It's a funny thing, though, plenty of bands have produced great music while personally feeling like cats in a sack. Not sure how that works.

Listening to this for the first time, just up to the trombone solo ... Art Blakey 5Tet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWwQ17MYt-M

Art's playing with amazing energy and skill but it's all too excitable for me at the moment and I'm about to look for something more mellow :)

Recently scored the double disc set of Tony Williams "Tokyo Live"

Personnel: Tony Williams (drums); Bill Pierce (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone); Wallace Roney (trumpet); Mulgrew Miller (piano)

Absolutely amazing and blazing.

I was just listening to Monk's Dream but Larry Young's version from the record Unity, I decided to check it out as it is featured in Riley's Beyond Bop. Great stuff, Elvin just being absolutely ridiculous!
