Default Ahead sticks vs. wood?

I'd like to hear about the difference from someone who has used both products extensively.
A lot of famous drummers use them, and I actually almost ordered a pair one time, but the dude at a local music store told me they were balanced much differently than traditional sticks, so I changed my mind.

Now several years down the road, I just wanted to ask. A lot of people don't talk about it.

I haven't tried them myself, but I've heard that they
destroy heads and cymbals much faster than wood sticks.
You could give them a try though; they're very durable and powerful.

Peace

I used to use those in the mid to late 90s. Honestly they feel weird compared to wood. And after I broke a couple (defeats the purpose of using them IMO considering the cost) I just switched back. I'm not crazy about the tips' sound on the ride either. Or the sound of the shaft on crashes for that matter.

Yes, yes - now that I think about it, I believe I've heard that the tips are prone to breaking.
Also, I've snapped up that a drummer using the Ahead-sticks instantly gets kind of a METAL-watermark put on him. Maybe the Ahead-sticks are more frequently used by metal drummers, I don't know. Just something to think about.

I used them in the distant past and I agree they feel significantly different to wood. Different is a relative term but I didn't care for the feel or balance of them. I also didn't like the sound they gave on cymbals or drums either.

I got them to be a long-lasting practice pair but between the feel, sound, and the tip breakage they didn't last long at all for me.

The tips don't break, the shafts break. The tips are prone to coming loose/off. I played them for a few months, the cost of covers was about the same as wood sticks at the time and the covers weren't lasting much longer than wood. After breaking a few shafts, that was it for me.

There's lots of threads here on DW about AHEAD sticks.... Search.
