Default Buying First Electronic Drum Set

Hi. I am an old-time drummer, today more like an ex-drummer somewhat. When we moved to the city a few years ago, I sold my acoustic set as I anyway I wasn't playing it a whole lot.

Now my 14 year old son wants to get a set. In a small apartment it's not really possible to have an acoustic set due to space constraints and also all the neighbors. :)

So I want to get him a starter electronic set. I'm not even certain how much he will really use it, so I don't want to invest a whole lot.

The other kicker is that I am in Israel, so the market here is a bit different. I see here choices like a Ringway TD82 here:

for 1990 NIS (New Israeli Shekels) = 508 USD.

However the videos on YouTube for this set are in Spanish mostly and really not impressive.

Then there is a HD-008 HXM on that same page for 3290 NIS = 840 USD

Or here, an Alesis DM6:

for 3139 NIS = 801 USD

and a Roland HD-1 here:

for 3780 NIS = 965 USD

I saw videos on YouTube for the HXM-HD008 and it appears to be touch sensitive and has a different sound for the rim and seems like it has rim shots also. All I know about electronic sets is to look for those things. Acoustic sets come with them built in you know. ;)

Videos for Alesis DM6 and Roland HD-1 show the same features, as far as I can see. I guess there are other features like being able to tune the snare manually etc, but I really don't know much about this.

So any advice anybody can share about buying this, I would appreciate it.

Alesis and Roland are well established brands.

Have you tried looking at music stores or in newspapers for used kits? The entry level Roland HD-1 kit here is ok, but spending a couple hundred extra dollars gets you a much better kit in the TD-4 is worth it. I would personally upgrade to the TD-4 just for the ability to use a real bass pedal.

I will check around for a used kit, but overall the market for used stuff is less here than in the US.

But thank you very much for the feedback. :)
