Default New Tune!! -> "Towering" by Woody, Ed Poole and me

Hey guys,

it's been pretty long since I posted a record here so I guess it's time now..

Here's a new track, written by Pete Wood, a guitar player from england.
The bass line and keys are played by Ed Poole, who also produced this song.

There's no video unfortunately but I really hope you enjoy listening! :)

All the best
David

I enjoyed much of that. Overall, a bit clean & sanitised for my taste, but I think that's a product of distance recording more than anything else. Stellar drumming of course David, but the bass work caught my attention too. As a piece to a non muso, I thought it overstayed it's welcome a bit. Too long, & I found the break section a bit too self indulgent to be witty.

I'm judging this against a very high bar, & trying not to listen as a musician. Looking forward to more stuff :)

Many thanks to you Andy! I really love your critique and feedback!!
I hope I got everthing right so please tell me if I comment wrong on something..

First of all, yeah the sound is very clean and may sound a bit "clinical" but I really liked the sound when we produced the sound.. I may have should "dirty it up" a bit though :)

Thanks for the comment on my playing! I'm always glad you like it :)
And regarding the bassline .. yeah, Ed is a pro player - his groove is unbelievable..

Not sure what you mean about the solo section?
I really liked it, was a lot fun to figure out the stuff and follow the basslines there..

Didn't get fox' post.. somebody else? (maybe we could delete it?)

Well, it's like when you ask someone "What did you think of it?" If the answer's "Eh" it probably means that person thinks it's just there, not particularly inspired/ing. And that's about it, I think it isn't a trascendental piece, and I wouldn't listen to it again. To me, as a piece of music, it's probably not worth the amount of work you obviously put into it.
I know that's probably quite harsh, but in no way I'm taking away from the skill of the players as players, the music just doesn't cut it for me.

Sorry for the original comment if it wasn't clear or you took it as offensive, you're a good guy and musician and that's why I'm clarifying.

Aaah now that post I can understand!
Thanks for your feedback then! Honestly, I can understand if people don't like listen to that kind of music.
I guess it's a song for "musicians" not for the normal "listeners" in the first place.

BUT I guess the amount of work is pretty much worth it as I got the chance to work with professional musicians from all over the world. You might know, that Ed works with gavin?
It might open a door for me one day, who knows :)

Yes, there's some of that in this song David, and I think that's what Andy was reffering too in his comment.

I think this type of song/music is very enjoyable live, as often, band like this perform to an audience which will appreciate the style and the musicianship.

As for the song itself, I liked it, a kinda fusion/rock/meet jazz type of vibe, all instruments are really well played, but a more "organic" sound would have lifted this piece of music to a higher level IMO, adding some warmth and feelings to the overall sound, almost like a live recording would be.

I'm a fan of your playing, so this is no exeption, huge skill, brilliant groove and amazing feet technique, even if it was a bit self-centered in the little bass and drums solo section :))
