We find out later on. Tomorrow!

My contract with my current phone expires next August. I'm looking at iOS or WP7 at the moment but I have a while to think about it. I'm not getting another Android device - although mine is ok. I'm looking forward to seeing what's new.

For everybody out there that dislikes Apple, that's fine. You have to admit though that Jonathan Ives knows how to design something beautiful.

Well I'm awaiting the news anxiously. I had an iPhone 4 in my hand, case picked out, account set up, phone number transferred over, ready to hit the OK button on that mobile device the Apple staff use to set you up. Then, just at the very end, the associate helping me tells me they have to call AT&T. She does, and they tell her the system is down for maintenance and to call back in an hour.

Obviously, I'm not going to wait around for an hour. I looked at it as a blessing in disguise since I heard a few days later that the iPhone 5 is going to debut any day now. But if it's really just a minor upgrade, I don't know if I'll pull the trigger right away or not.

I guess the icloud will have a role to play with whatever they demonstrate tomorrow. Thats exciting.

Disappointing if its not big news., even though my 4 is less than a year old. The company has a 100 billion in cash. ( no, thats not a typo )

Ahh, something I'm finally qualified to talk about ;)

No 4s. Originally Apple was trying to corner the market on low-income markets (mainly overseas) but eventually pulled the plug. It was going to be all iPhone 4 components in an attempt to bring the price point below $100. It really should've been named iPhone 3.75

The iPhone 5 might have the A5 processor, will have an upgraded front and back camera, it will be thinner, the edges beveled and the screen brought all the way to the left and right side. From what I've heard, the mega features are going to be internal so most people might not appreciate them.

It's looking like iOS will be the major highlight. Notification system, an "Assistant" feature that supposedly outshines googles latest speech commanded software and iCloud. There will also be a feature that not only uses the camera flash as a visual notification but you'll also be able to completely customize the vibrations of the vibrate feature.

Don't pull the trigger on an iPhone 4. I actually bought a second 4 a couple of months ago because I dropped mine while running and it was of course 1 out of like 4 times I've ever had the cover off. Murphy's law. No reason to get behind the ball when it'll be out in a little over a week.

I'm kind of unimpressed. The Siri thing is pretty dope though. I can't see using it much, except to show off. However, how it handles the context of speech in my opinion is the really cool thing.

Here are the high/low lights:

Its the iPhone 4S not the 5 and looks identical to the iPhone 4, but internally it is brand new. Thanks to a new chip already present in the iPad 2, the new iPhone runs seven times faster.

The iPhone 4S will be available Oct. 14 on Verizon, AT&T and a new addition, Sprint. It will also come with a new camera system, improved battery life and, as expected, a voice control system named "Siri."

For now, it appears Siri will be limited to specific commands, but don't let that fool you, since it has the capability to understand quite a lot.

Want to schedule events or read text messages? It can do it for you, so long as you direct it -- no hands required. You can ask whether you need a raincoat, and what time it is in a foreign city. And you can set an alarm.

Also read: Apple's iPhone Voice App: Revolution or Another Disappointment?

All of this voice capability is bound to leave some uneasy. When Schillar asked Siri "Who are you," it responded "I am a humble personal assistant.”

Still, many of the tech writers in attendance seem to have been very impressed.

Apple also priced these new phones quite aggressively, offering the 16 GB for $199, the 32GB for $299 an the 64GB for $399.

Schillar announced a slate of updates to the iPod Nano and iPod Touch, while Scott Forstall, Senior Vice President of iPhone Software, unveiled the latest update to Apple’s operating system, iOS 5. It will become available on Oct. 12 and offers more than 200 new features, including the Apple Newstand.

While the lack of an iPhone 5 may be disappointing to some, Cook made it clear from the start that Apple feels pretty confident about its achievements.

Also, HSDPA, so ~14.4Mbps, can't knock that.

As a total Mac guy - you'd think I'd want to be connected via phone, but I really hate it. The only people that call me is my work and I'm certainly not being productive with it. I'm considering going back to not having a phone and seeing if my life changes at all. When I had a phone with internet access, I found myself wasting alot of time on the internet - which would be good if I was single and looking for a mate, or if I needed a daily dose of pornography. All the things I want to be good at, drumming, playing that new ukulele, photography, bike riding, etc.,....all do not involve the internet or email or text messages or voice mails.

But as a man once asked me about technology, "could you actually go back?". I wish I could say YES! But as it stands, I'll have to be happy with forking out my $90 a month (1100 a year) just to have the service should I need it, because everybody else has it. Besides, I need to access Drummerworld ;)

I don't have a land line phone anymore.
I use only a mobile.
I use only about 100 mins a month or sometimes only about 20 mins a month.
I almost never use the phone for the net.
I send a few texts a week.
I use the GPS once or twice a month.

Still, I never go anywhere without my mobil phone.

Never had one, never felt the urge to get one and probably won't ever get one. I'm working at home though, being at the PC for hours.

Well the new phone 4S has produced 1 million pre-orders in 24 hours surpassing the older mark of 600,000. Had they named it the iPhone 5 it probably would have sold 2 million. The media continues to out guess themselves every time Apple hints at a new product only to embarrass themselves. the phone has great features and is a hit already by the users. The media needs to step back and get a grip on themselves and be reporters, and journalists and stop playing soothsayer and then acting disappointed when their guesses are proven to be wrong. The pricing seems to be the same as the last model. I'm not eligible for a new phone at the AT&T price until February and will make a decision at that time. There is an update, iOS5 coming soon, and will add many features to the iPhone and the iPads.

HAHA - this is so true. All the pre-release hate going around wouldn't exist if Apple changed the name from 4S to 5. I personally prefer the iPhone 4's body design over the rumored one anyway, which was guessed to have beveled edges and a larger screen. My Sprint contract finished at the beginning of September, so I've been patiently waiting for this iPhone update to finally release...

Yeah, it looks nice enough, but I'd rather get the cool stuff early on, than have to wait until Apple comes out with its own version at a higher price.

So the Galaxy Tab 10.1, with buggy Android software, is cheaper than the iPad then?

I don't know about that. There are a gazillion manufacturers. I use a Sprint Slide with Android and it works very well for me so far.

Well the current trend with tablets (with notable exceptions - the Amazon Fire) is that equivalent Android tablets are more expensive in general than the iPad.

I have an HTC phone with Android (running Cyanogen Mod 7) and the original Android installation was very buggy. I just don't think it's there yet and it's rushed into release.

My phone is an HTC and seems to work well enough. Somtimes it says there's not enough memory to do things and I have to clear the content out of some of the apps I have added on. Other than that, it's like a pocket computer.

I am surprised to hear about Android products costing more than Apple.

Very much agreed, that's one of my biggest gripes with android; their hardware just isn't there. Well, it is there, but it's more of an internals pissing contest. I think either yesterday sometime I found out the A5 processor that's in the 4S is clocked at 800MHz all the while the purported Samsung GS3 is supposed to have a 1.8MHz processor. And in about 9-12months time after both of their releases, the iPhone will probably still run smoother than SG3.

Do any of you guys know of a way to mount your phone while drumming? To use apps and record, etc.
