Default New Evans heads on MCAN - GPlus coated

Well I decided to change my drum heads on my MCAN…I had lived with (and really liked) Evans EC2 clears (on all my toms) for the past year..they provided a clear tone with quite a bit of focus to them..a really nice head..

...well a while back I read an article in either DRUM or Modern Drummer about the Gplus head that Evans makes..the review was very positive for the head and I also read quite a few user reviews that were favorable as well..so I thought what the heck I'll give them a try..needless to say after installing them, I don't think I'm going to be disappointed…they definitely do have a different sound to them (from the EC2's)..a little more round, mellow and definitely more resonant… so much so that I had to tune the bottom heads on a couple of my toms differently than what they were tuned to with the EC2's..all in all though, I believe a good pick…if your in the market for a durable coated head, I would definitely give these a listen to...

Did you try the coated white or the frosted looking ones? Good to hear your feedback.

G2 coated were the ones I used for a long time but just put the new G14 clears on all of my toms. They are the thickest out there and with the thickness will be very durable. To me the tone is great. But I'm only one guy.

I ran a thread on these:

http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/s...+g+plus+review

They are great heads in their own right. I am sure the G14's are good heads too, but the G Pluses can stand on their own, They have incredible tone and they have a nice feel and rebound. I learned concert snare drum well before I started playing on a drum set, so I really love to play heads that actually have some bounce. I cannot stand playing dead heads that feel like you are playing a trampoline. G Pluses are a very impressive product.

I've not heard of the G14's..yea I thought the Gplus heads were thick (12 mil), but 14 mil..that's thick!…what surprises me is how good they sound tone/resonance-wise..you would think with a thick head that you would lose some of the resonance, but not with the Gplus..in fact I had tune down the bottom head on my 8" tom because of this...

Glad to hear you're checking out the G Plus! It really is a great line of heads. Personally, I've been enjoying G14 clear batters and G Plus clear resos on my rock kit- full sound, plenty of low end and great projection.

Cheers!

I've been using GPlus on the tops AND bottoms for a while now. I think I'll leave the GPlus on the bottoms and try those G14 heads on the tops next time. I'm very much looking forward to trying them.
