Hole Cutting

When miking a bass drum sound techs are genearlly happier with ported bass drum heads; they need the extra attack you get by sticking the mic inside of the drum (and by having a ported resonant head). Could be a good argument if your parents are in any way into music.

I second the can idea, no need to spend $ on a new reso head if you do it this way. The hole looks really smooth, perfectly round.

I want to burn a hole in my 22" Ludwig Resonant head. My parents do not think I need to do that because they think it will mess up the kit. How can I convince them to let me burn a hole through with a can?

I would recommend investing in a HOLZ device. Burning with a hot can does work but it is ultimately dangerous to be handling metal cans hot enough to slice through mylar.

Demonstrating that people manufacture devices like the HOLZ should demonstrate that it is common practice.

Replacing the drumhead is always an option
