Early Phillips

Wow, this guy is unbelieveable! And it is nice to see that in 80`s he was like this. I think that it is good that some things does not change. The only difference is now he is more unbelieveable.
I just could not stop waching him until my wife forced me to help her which home duties.

I find interesting that his setup is almost the same as nowadays. He had found IT many years ago...

Ok, sets & interview decidedly 80's Asian, but a wonderful open insight into Simon's early playing & grooves. A long watch, but oh so informative. This one's for our favourite "lurker" - Henri!

Nice. Like Terry Bozzio, he's one of those players who was terrific right from the start. He was pretty young when he did 801 Live and that's legendary. One of the greats in rock IMO. I always enjoy the incredibly calm and focused look in his eyes as he plays. He always seems to ooze calmness.

It's been a long time since I posted a cartoon but I think this one is worth posting at this juncture:

Edit: Andy, looking more at the video it becomes apparent how much of an influence he has been on you.

Thanks for that one Andy.Nightraider said increadable dynamics..and I couldn't agree more.

His playing is even and precise at all dynamic levels,in fact this vid is a lesson in dynamics 101.

Love the openhanded style and creativity.

Simon is a monster drummer and watching him play, never seems to get old.Surely one of the greats.who's comfortable in many styles.

One of my earliest drumming idols, and one of the all-time baddest cats ever.

Chops, creativity, impeccable taste. Simon has it all.
