Snare crisis

It must be me but just recently I have not been satisfied with the sounds of any of my snares.
And I really couldn't tell you why.
Weird huh?
Don't know what to think or do now.
Paul.

Maybe get your ears checked because you have some nice snares. Seriously maybe heads, wires or tuning? And maybe it is all in your head, maybe time for a short break?

I think you should pick a few members here on the forum, and send one of your snares to each one as a Christmas gift. I'll bet I'll like at least one of them ;)

Looking at your entire collection, I have to ask, what is it that you want? You seem to have all the bases covered, material-wise. What could be missing? I hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure those probably sound like snare drums. Are you looking for something that doesn't exist?

Most of your snares are bright & fairly loud. Nothing wrong with that if that's what you're shooting for. To be perfectly honest, if you can't get somewhere close to the sound you're after with your drum selection, something's not working out. I remember you having issues with the first snare, but I thought you'd improved the sound on that.

Looking at your collection, you're missing woody & rounded. Is that what you're after?

I'd take one of the Yammies if you're feeling generous :)

Seriously, nice collection!

I'm liking those last two. Not sure what sound you are after but they look nice.

That's a great collection, man. Play around with heads, wires, tuning and muffling, even sticks. Do things you had previously written off or thought were stupid. I'm sure there's a sound you like somewhere in at least one of those drums.

EDIT: A shallower drum might be what you're after, also. Depth makes a huge difference in snare response and sound

Entirely agree. Just ordered a pair of New Years new ears.
Gigging tonight and feel so much better.
Keep the faith brothers and sisters.
Paul

Maybe you need to try even deeper snares maybe some 8 x 14 or even 10 x 14 maybe try the new Ludwig Supralite 5 x 15.
