Buying a kit, budget is 2000$

Sup,

I finally decided to buy an electronic drum kit. I've been playing on shitty acoustic kits all my life (not saying acoustic is shitty, but those I owned were) and I had to sell them every time I moved into an apartment because of the noise. So I'm looking for suggestions as for what to buy.

With the 2000$ budget, there needs to be a double bass pedal included, preferably mesh heads and at least 3 cymbals + hi-hat if possible. I'm currently interested in buying the Alesis DM10X or the Roland TD-9. Any thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks!

Go with the TD9 IMHO. Much better sounds and durability.

Buy a house. Most rent payments are about the same as a mortgage

Roland....Craigslist

The Alesis I have seen were junk.

I ended up liking the Yamaha kick pads more than the Rolands and they were really cheap, even new.

You could do a Yamaha DTX 530 ($1099). It has a silicone snare and rubber toms, upgrade an additional cymbal for $169 (I believe) with the mounting hardware included. And if you want to upgrade future, you can add 3 more single zone pads by purchasing 3 splitters, buying some rubber pads (I think they are around $80 each with the mounting hardware).

Currently I'm running a DTX 535 (which Kraft Music isn't offering anymore) I'm running 5 toms and 4 cymbals with the use of splitters. And to boot, if you ever want to upgrade the kit in the future, all you need to do is buy the DTX700 module and your already setup with your current kit.

Think about it, Defender

Used TD12, probably best bang for the buck. Right o Davo !!

You can get a TD-11KV for $1,600, and add a kick pedal for less than $100. I believe the Triggera Krigg silent kick controller is less than $100, also. A Roland PM-03 is $200, so that brings you about up to your $2000 price for an all-mesh head kit, which will be quieter than a mesh snare with rubber everything else.

Make sure to play the potential kits you're looking at. After years of playing, I've decided that electric kits have a significantly different feel from brand to brand (unlike acoustic kits). While my Yamaha maple custom is going to feel like my birch custom, and they're both going to feel similar to a Pearl masters etc, a Yamaha kit with their new silicone pads feels completely different than the mesh heads of Roland et al.

Personally, I had a TD12 kit with extra pads and cymbals but ended up selling it. I'm not sure if I would have sold it had it been the new yamaha type pads. I feel like the roland kits work so hard to make it feel like an acoustic kit... but the Yamaha kits embrace the idea that's electric. I am not a huge fan of the mesh heads.

Either way, I recommend throwing Yamaha in the loop of possibilities.

Groeger, if you read above at all the info I've provided with pricing and then read below that and notice how I've been completely ignored, I would venture to say this person has absolutely no desire to purchase a Yamaha kit. In my opinion, that's completely his loss, but hey, what do I know?

I have the same budget! I've looked at a few TD20 kits, nice, but am thinking about a TD10 kit for $900 (my offer). While not even close to state of the art, it would do me fine I think. I'm just not sure if I should spend a little more and get a TD20 or similar.
