Picked up drumming again - get an acoustic or electric kit?

Hello, sorry if this has been posted before.

I used to play drums about 5 years ago, self taught. I have recently picked up the sticks again but this time I am having lessons because I want to learn the right techniques to help me become a better player etc.

My question is- Do I get an electric or acoustic kit? I'd only be able to get about an hour a week practicing in with the acoustic because of noise and neighbors. But with an electric I can practice as much as I want!

I just don't want it to hinder my acoustic playing if I get an electric drum kit. I've heard that things like the hi hat cymbal techniques aren't as accurate as on an acoustic?

What would you do?

Re: New drummer question

They are different for sure but 1 session per week practice is never going to get you far so I don't think you have much choice.

The more you spend on an ekit the closer it mimics an acoustic kit.

So spend lots of money and you'll be fine!

PS: I'm not kidding

An ekit if you want to be able to spend the time playing.

When I went to an e kit, it expanded my practice hours 10X and I doubt that it did anything seriously negative.
