Favorite bass player? Only one allowed

Trevor Dunn from Mr. Bungle. Very odd music that's hard for most to get into, but that guy really knows how to play.

It's really tough cause alot of bass players who are "in the pocket" players can also play the technical stuff. Take Robbie Merrill of Godsmack. That dude has some serious chops. But he keeps it very simple for the sake of the music.

Les Claypool insane want to say flea but...

Victor Wooten.

no wait - Stefan Lessard

or John Myung

how about Juan Alderete de la Peña from The Mars Volta?

ahhhhh I can't decide....

Juan and Stefan are both really underrated.

Tony Levin - sweet stuff

I almost forgot about him! I would have never known about the chapman stick if I didn't listen to KC. I was addicted to his playing in Elephant Talk for the longest time. I was shocked the first time I saw it live on youtube when I realized that he played it entirely with tapping and also at how bizarre the instrument was.

+1

Tony's replacement, Trey Gunn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrosbRuy_yE, was also outstanding. Love that McCartneyesque melodic bass style. Paul played a lot of tasty bass lines too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O7PnvVgQvA

Hard to choose amongst all the great bassists listed though.

Christian McBride, Without a doubt!

Thanks for that! I haven't heard too much newer KC stuff... I got the earliest albums through Discipline and then just Thrak. I do like that KC song you linked a lot actually, I think I was just turned off by the idea of their main drummer now just using electronic drums (never been a fan of his electronic drum snare sounds) so I never really listened to their newer music. But that was a very nice and interesting song, and it has some great bass lines in it :)

The pundits say that the title track of C of L was the best song on the album and the rest not so good, and I agree. The Power to Believe was a big return to form. Pat Matellotto and Trey Gunn did a great job on that album - this is my fave from it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BUlD78O9oo. It can't be easy following in Bill and Tony's footsteps so all power to them :)

Tal Wilkenfeld

She's playing with Jeff Beck now. She's an Aussie that's shared the stage with Vinnie C., Eric Clapton, Sting.

She can groove like hell.

She's young, new and she's also a hottie.

My current favorite!

I would say Christian McBride, because he is an incredible straight ahead jazz player on upright, but can also step into the fuzoid realm and get into Funk and R&B grooves on the electric as well. He also seems like a great listener and is a fantastic overall musician.
