They look nice but really great drum porn always has closeups.
Specs?????
Closeups, huh? That can be arranged. Here we go:
The sizes are DW's usual: 22", 10", 12", 14". Color is candy apple red lacquer. It's deep and thick like good auto lacquer, not showing the grain. Some people don't like that. I do because it always reminds me of an old Corvette I used to lust after back in the day.
The snare is a 5.5 x 14 Ludwig Phosphor Bronze I bought new earlier this year. The cymbals are vintage Avedis Zildjian 22" and 19" rides and 14" hats that I've had since the late '50s/early '60s, a 16" Sabian AAX crash that I got in the early '90s as a gift for subbing on a tour, and a later '90s 18" Zildjian crash I bought on eBay. The rides and hats have a shimmering sound you just can't find anymore. (Although I think Paiste Giant Beats come damn close.)
Actually, I shouldn't call the vintage Zildjians rides. They were just sold as "cymbals" then.
Bass pedal is Yamaha. The hi-hat stand is a sturdy, wonderful Gibraltar I bought in the mid '90s and can't find a reason to replace. Got it at a music store on Ventura Bl. in Studio City/Sherman Oaks, CA. When I walked in and asked what it cost, the salesman wouldn't answer. Just said, "Make me an offer." I offered to leave, and then he spoke up so we could negotiate a real deal.
Hipshot's 1st rule of showbiz negotiation: Always make the other guy go first.
