REAL nice. What do you think of the Artisan hats? I was eyeballing the exact same ones. I want thin, dark hats but I was hoping 15" would be loud enough to cut through a heavy rock band.

Thanks! I absolutely love them. These definitely cut and sound AMAZING! I hope to record them after my ride comes back from the Sabian factory. I'll be sure to post a link.

Thanks! Really appreciate it!

Just finished building my Performance kit..

Haven't played in about 20 years. Seems like alot of drummers are losing the 2 bass drums and going with a double pedal.
I don't know..are double kicks out of style? :)

Double bass is a pain to move around, costs a lot more and takes up more stage room. The double pedals are very good now, so you don't really notice the lag in the slaves anymore. I still love two bass drums, but mine stays at home.

Brand new member here, but LONG time drummer (34 years worth). Very cool site, and awesome pic's!!!

I LOVE DW's, so I felt obligated to chip in! Here's a pic of my primary kit as I have several, the others being older black and gold badge kits. The picture is a few years old as I've since added but then recently sold again two additional 28" kicks, and then added and kept additional toms and Edge snares in a multitude of sizes and colors, and picked up some cool and rare DW's such as a 3" x 14" DW snare (yep... 3") AND the rarest of rare, a true 2002 stamped DW 5.5" x 6" DW tom (not a concert or rata). Was cool to call DW to confirm the tom was special ordered in 2001, and one of only a handful known to ever have been made. :)

The secondary kick in the back is a 20" x 28" with 8" x 28" woofer driven by a remote pedal. Current setup has 2 9000 remote hats, 2 primary hats, and one x-hat to give you an idea of the direction it's headed since. Yes, I have issues like most of you probably do.

More pic's to come as soon as I can find my digital camera.

Nice one!

What are the pedals on the left hand side for?

1. Double pedal
2. Hi Hat
3. Cable Hat (I really need to get mine fixed!!! Life without it sucks...)
4. ???

DW Collector's Gray Marine Pearl wrap - refinished as Natural Satin (tung oil applied)

Wasn't a custom order, bought this off the shelf at a local dealer, then decided I wanted a natural satin finish. Stripped the wrap and applied a few coats of tung oil.

Next DW will be a Tobacco Fade over Olive Ash Burl....I love the natural wood grains.

Anyone know if Tobacco Fade over Olive Ash Burl is considered Exotic?

Planning on buying some more cymbals - but I can't find parts for my Yamaha Hex Rack, so I'm not going to bother until I get a new rack system.

.

Cool post, I didn't realize you can remove the finish ply. Did it take a lot of sanding to get rid of the adhesive?
Olive Ash Burl is an exotic veneer. You may want to consider natural to tobacco fade. Tobacco fade on it's own is pretty opaque. You want to see that olive ash burl grain. It's really a sick.

Not at all - barely any sanding necessary - I used Citrustrip to take the glue off.....worked like a charm, and completely safe for the wood.

I'll keep note of that! Thank you!

Citrustrip was the key element!!! I actually tried a few things (I won't mention them here because I still want to slap myself in the face for doing it) but finally got pro advice from my friend who is a drum builder and refinisher)

You apply the Citrustrip, and wait about 15 minutes or so - then the glue literally rubs off with a cloth or towel, it's incredible how easy it comes off. After that, I barely sanded with a fine fine fine grit paper.

Fortunately I was quite lucky - the wood that drum companies typically select as a wrap candidate does not look very well underneath the wrap, but the drums looked excellent.

Got my new Vault Artisan cymbals in and decided to put the full kit back together. Man did I miss this setup!

Don't be afraid to post a picture or two, lol.

What is your opinion on the throw-off/butt plate combination? I have the same configuration on my DW Classic snare and find it most convenient and quiet to use.
