are taiko's the most expensive drums?

i saw a 'making of' type program on discovery today where they showed how they make and tune these beautiful drums. a drum of this size ...

has to be aged for 20 years before final shaping and can cost more than £200 000 !!!

Now lets attach a bass pedal to that and some rack toms.

I don't know how I feel about drilling that monster for a tom mount.

Better get that baby insured.
 
amazing drum! and I thought 26" kick drums were big :)

I wonder if hardcase has made a case for them :D
and I guess you need a whole cow for each head !!!

They probably are. They're like a wine casks.

Closer to home, the 'Moon the Loon's custom made 1968 Premier drum kit was auctioned off at Christie’s in London in 2004 for a whopping $252,487 or £139,650.
 
The world's biggest O' Daiko, made from a 4 ton block of wood and over 9 feet in diameter! It took 12 people over a year to make it. (made by Asano Taiko). It is said that the furthest point at which the village Taiko could be heard marked the edge of the village.
