Vinnie Colaiuta

one of the best endorsements money can buy....or worst?..

I don't know...this subject gets me confused.

fiona help us....

One of my favourite drummers out there. My biggest influence ever.
I'm just amazed by the way he can play so MUCH but it still sounds so CLEAN. His playing never gets messy/unpronounced. I especially love just about everything he's done with Sting.

I was so surprised (and happy!) when I found out that he'd gone to Paiste cymbals - I mean, wasn't he like Zildjian's biggest fanboy? Anyways, I love the old fellow.

Re: Vinnie's Video Interview re: Paiste

So, if you've all seen this already, just ignore this post.....but here is Vinnie's video interview where he discusses the switch. Always interesting to hear VC speak.

Always feels weird for me to hear the master speak. Kinda like hearing Charlie Watts speak; it feels wrong/weird for me. Anyways I think it's funny he switched to Paiste, I'm glad to have him in the family.

Just came across this clip on YouTube of Vinnie on tour with Frank Zappa in 1978. Frank is egging Vinnie on to make seal sounds while playing grooves/solos, and I tell ya, it's pure gold! Actually his playing is phenomenal, even while making these weird seal barks all over the place. You gotta check this one out.

Vinnie was, and still is, amazing.
The first time I saw him live was during this FZ tour in 1978.
I saw him quite a few times since then, but I look forward to seeing him again tomorrow with Sting!

Wow, would love to have seen that 78 performance.

Here he is talking about his work with Sting:

I've also uploaded a few clinics he's done in the past and will put up more soon:

So I saw Vinnie with Sting yesterday night. As amazing as ever!
I liked the sounds of his new cymbals, they really worked well with the music.
I don't know if they were all Paiste 602s, but I've always liked the 602s!

I posted a DVD of Vinnie solos at DIME . . .Check It Out!

Here is a fresh collection of Vinnie solos and hot moments assembled from many DIME torrents, trades and years of collecting. None of this material has ever been commercially released. Not a ton of new material to circulate here, save for the amazing Chaka Khan rehearsal footage and the Jersey 89 clinic, but this is a highly enjoyable compilation nonetheless. The footage is generally excellent some nearly first generation. Even the handheld stuff is not terribly generated. Created and uploaded by Matt Hughen July 2012

Glad you guys like that DVD. It was fun as hell to make. I have also youtubed an entire show that I recently received:

John Patitucci Band w/ VINNIE COLAIUTA - New Morning, Paris, France - COMPLETE SHOW
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-9534ilNfU

If you want a DVD copy I have also UL'd it to DIME:

Black and White audience shot.

Here is a performance of the John Patitucci band from Paris France's jazz club, New Morning. Unknown date but would be 1990-1992. Filmed with a handheld camera on a tripod or some kind of mount. There is some shifting and adjusting. The camera is cut off a few times (probably to conserve battery life) and the sound is a little boxy but acceptable. For the most part the cameras stays on Vinnie and Patitucci.

Each song is chaptered as are Vinnie's solos.

I am not familiar enough with Patitucci's songs to make a set list. If anyone would like to make it known, that would be great. This show is not on Etree.

John Patitucci - Electric & Acoustic Bass
Vinnie Coliauta - Drums
Steve Tavaglione - Sax & EWI
John Beasley - Keyboards

Any chance to get this for people who don't use torrent?

I don't have plans to do anything else with it, but it is being hosted at places other than DIME.
zappateers.com does not limit registration unlike DIME, but it is a torrent site.

If you look at the list of video elements that make up the DVD, much/most is available on youtube . . . just not in one convenient and entertaining package!
