I found out a few weeks ago about this website called http://soundcloud.com

It seems like a way of get your music out there on the net with individual tracks getting their own embed URL.

As musicians how do you find something like this?

Revolutionary?
Helpful?
Great?

...or...

Pathetic?
Bound to fail? (with copyrighted material being posted and what not)

Your tracks can have comments, can easily be hyperlinked on other sites, even downloaded and remixed (if you want).

I use it. It's pretty cool, and I can link tunes to friends without having to upload to myspace or a file-sharing page.

Plenty of people here use it and I find it nice to use. It loads fast and shows the waveform as well, which is great since it gives you an idea of the dynamic journey you're about to go on.

So far I've found that's it's mostly just to show other musicians/people who care about quality, uncompressed versions of a song. At first I thought it would be like the new Myspace or facebook, but I was sadly mistaken. Revolutionary? Oh goodness no. Helpful? Not really. Great? It's great for certain things. Pathetic? Not at all. Bound to fail? (with copyrighted material being posted and what not) Perhaps due to far more popular and accessible sites like Facebook and MySpace (not that anyone really uses it anymore). Also, I do really like how it shows the waveform. It lets you know who's using waaay to much compression. ;)

That said, check out my bands profile on there! (woooo shameless self promotion!)

My thoughts too.

I have noticed bands and musicians are flocking to it given that myspace is essentially dead. But it seems to lack networking key of mysapce, which is what originally made myspace the industry standard of music sites.

And yes, everyone should check out Jonathan's band. Superb stuff. I've found myself going back to their page numerous times over the last week.

I love it. However It just doesn't work for me. By that I mean for some reason nothing I try to upload will show up. So I can't use it for myself, which sucks, but I still think it's a great tool for musicians and people who remaster stuff or something.

Being in a newish band, we're still finding our way round all the website's to get ourselves noticed......sounds clouds pretty cool though...easy to use.....not sure it will change the world but hey-ho...

Here's a link to my band and a few tracks, hope you enjoy them....

cheers!

it's alright. it used to be better, before they started getting tougher on copyright (in terms of remixes, mash-ups etc). i mainly use it to stay updated with my friends that are releasing stuff, for that purpose it is fine. i'm sure it will be one day superseded by a new service, which will be superseded by a new service, which will be...
