Tama Superstar Snare

Hey guys!
I just wanted to show you this snare:
it is a 6-ply 6-7x14 made in Japan Tama Superstar Snare
what is interesting in this snare is that it has a classic strainer (system that allows the snares just to have contact with its cables, not with the end-plate)...
it has diecast hoops and each tension rod has a washer to pressure against the hoop so that it can be tuned for longer periods of time...

I love those Tamas from the 80's.
That's the same hardware as my long lost Bell Brass (actually, it's in good hands I'm okay w/it now).

The snare wires on that Cherrywine Superstar snare are aftermarket/incorrect. The original snare wires should extend past bearing edges. Also those round washers are not original.

Yeah, they look like Puresound. But that drum used regular snares even though the throw-off and butt plate look like they should have something special - ie. extend past the shell. And the round washers are not OG - not sure what they are.

Those drums did not use regular snares. They absolutely had extended snares. I have a few original ones. Here is a picture from the 1981 catalog which shows the extended snares.

Yeah, I have two Superstar snares now (6.5 & 8) and the snares are most certainly supposed to extend out. Pain in the butt to replace.

Supposedly the Pearl Free Floater snare wires fit perfectly, I bought a set but need to get a new reso before I re-set up the 6.5 completely.

Great sounding drums though.

I see this alot on pearl free-floaters including one I bought where they will just use 14" snares...

here's why I didn't remember the extended snares...no snares when returned to me...
I though my drum was safe in my cousin's studio when it in fact it was returned to my parent's very damp basement...arggghhh

yes you are right
the snare wires arent the ones intentioned for the drum, and the washers arent original
but, who gives a damn?
they work good as far as i am concerned...
