Recording for Newtown

As many of you know I work in Newtown and I play in a Jazz band that is based in Newtown. I was in the studio last week recording with Boplicity.
We recorded a track for an album that will consist of Newtown bands.
The proceeds will go to the survivors of the victims.
That Remo kit was pretty cool :)
I will post info about where to buy the album in this thread when it is final mixed and released.

I was playing my Agop cymbals and my Sonor SE maple snare.

Great stuff, Bob! Nice to do something for such a worthy cause. It's a good sounding band and it must be tons of fun to play with them, and no doubt your playing has really come on too since you joined them.

On ab, um, lighter note ... I'm wondering about the combined weight of your band - about a tonne? ;-)

At least a ton Gretchen! I have recently started a strict diet at the request of my doctor. :)
I gained 30 lbs. after I quit smoking two years ago. Several of the band members are on a diet as of late also.

lol - that's my fear. Since I've quit smoking I've been eating like crazy and I find it hard to stop. The only reason I'm not exploding like Mr Creosote is I take the dog out bushwalking most days.

Good luck with the diet - quite an adjustment!

My goal is to lose 20 Lb's by the end of April. I lost 2 so far over the past 2 weeks.
I am getting used to eating right.

Mike the bass player is missing from the pics, I am trying to track one down.

I think this is about as cool as it gets Bob. Not only doing something for a great cause, but riding on the vibe of fun & positivity in a recording environment doesn't get any better. Extra kudos for keeping with the smoking quitting too. I am weak :(

When is the album out Bob?

Excellent Bob! Please update with the information on how to get the recording......

The recordings should be available in a few weeks.
I will let you know.
I am both honored and proud to be part of the healing process for the town that I have worked in since 1981.
We are moving through all of the steps of the grieving process.
Coming together and doing something like this is an important part of healing.

We took the basic song structure of the classic Jazz tune by Horace Silver, "Song For My Father"
We wrote a song called, "Song For The Children"

Steely Dan also used structure from Horace's song for, "Ricky Don't Lose That Number"

Yes that is a Remo Acousticon kit. It is the studio kit. I kind of liked it. I wouldn't buy one though.

Wow, I didn't know about any of this. I've been working on Ricky Don't Lose that Number for ages and just looked up the Horace Silver tune on YT - inspiring stuff. Roger Humphries on drums was about as tasty as you can get.

Interesting stuff huh sweetie?
I glad that you were intrigued by it.
Horace contributed greatly to music.

I have a short sample of our contribution to the Newtown Heros album.
Sorry, I can't share anymore. I don't want to take away from the charity.

Thanks Andy, As you can hear from the sample, I "Kept It Simple!" :)

I am looking forward to hearing what the others have contributed to the album.
So far I have only heard Boplicity's submission.
