7 years of hard work - finished! :)

....You do make it difficult on the rest of us ... I can't possibly show these pics to my better half...!!!

Well done (again)!

Best,
radman

I'm thinking the same thing... I'd be in huge trouble.

To say that I am impressed would be a severe understatement. The fact that you did this yourself elevates it from a beautiful landscaping job to a personal artistic statement.

I wish you and yours many happy years there.
Thanks Jeff :) The landscaping was about half the job. House & garage/barn representing the other half. We gutted the house back to the weather tight shell, relaid the roof, & did a total interior fit job (ceilings, lime plaster walls, complete beam renovation, kitchen, bathrooms, etc - you get the picture). Garage/barn was a complete build from the frame up, although most of the frame structure & roof was in place (but needed relaying).

I'm most pleased with my little log store! Strange eh? I built it totally from materials lying around the site. Total cost = zero :)

I'm constantly in trouble with "she who shall be obeyed", but for the opposite reason ;)

Wow, you don't play around, do you Andy? Just great.

Wow..I was pretty much gobsmacked when I first looked at the photos.Just stunning stuff Andy.

When I was in the UK in 2000,the scout group I was with stayed in a scout camp called Fazels Woods(I'm not sure about the spelling) which was about 2 hours or so out of London

I got to see first hand just how beautiful the English country side is and how cool the "pub" life is.Beautiful pubs, friendly people and just a wonderful family like atmosphere.

But I digress. What you've created there is nothing short of remarkable.

So,what will you do with all that extra time on your hands? The kids are in school right,so it's you and the Mrs.....nod nod ....wink wink.......know what I mean, know what I mean, a.:):):)

................amazing, just flat out amazing!...................do you have any "Before and after" pics?

...

Andy, YOU NEED A KOI POND!!!! .............And then you're done.

Kidding....... Its stunning. Everything. Your aesthetic sense shines through all the photographs. It is beautiful and understated and classy! Love it.

Wow Andy,

The photos can't begin to explain the hard work behind the final product. It's absolutely beautiful. It's easy to see that NOTHING was placed haphazardly. The placement of every boulder, tree, shrub and pebble was envisioned long before the photos were taken.

I'm not ambitious enough to do your maintenance work, though I could take a crack at maintaining your wood pile! I've got 10 acres at my cottage in northern lower Michigan - it comes in two flavors: mowed field or forest.

Good work Andy. Enjoy the fruits of your labor. I'd advise you to relax, but somehow don't think that's possible... ;-)

You should visit my local. You'd see the other side to pub culture then!

There are three kinds of pubs, really. There are the nice village pubs (that are lovely you can often while away an afternoon watching Cricket close by. In fact one I know backs onto the Cricket field). Then there are the 'rough' pubs, usually in post-industrial towns like mine where you might see a few fights, men without shirts and scary-looking bouncers. Then there's the other sort, which are frequented by those that are underage and usually have live music.

The third is where I grew up. Then they started enforcing the licensing laws which ruined everybody's fun (except mine, I had a beard by then) and I still go occasionally because it's open until six in the morning. Last time I went, I saw the sun set and then the sun rise.

Kids are all left home by the end of this month! My son has already flown the nest. As for the "wink wink", well, in this hot weather, the waterfall is beckoning ;)

Unfortunately, my before photo's are on my other (now broken) computer. I'll have to find a way of retrieving them.

Thanks Abe, but no Koi pond. We have lots of herons around here, & that's just too much work :(

You certainly have to be able to see beyond the present when planning these kinds of works. Moving several tons of boulders after the fact isn't an option.

There's certainly a full selection of "flavours" available in the UK ;)

Guys, the first half of our final job took place this morning. We chopped Cedric the dragon down, pending re-homing next week. He needs a lot of TLC to his extremities, plus we were concerned about roots rotting in the coming years. He'll be attached to the front of our barn/garage. Quite an engineering task, but I've worked out a method :) Pictures when that happens.

For now, here's a couple of shots from this morning's fun (using the neighbour's tele handler).

It does have a very Zen/Japanese rock garden feel to it.

Just looking at the photos has a calming effect.Deffinately subject matter for a Better Homes and Garden article.

Just beautiful stuff.

Thats awesome! Looks like the backyard on Karate kid.

Funny that, many who come here make the Japanese connection, yet there's very little here to support that outside of water & rocks. With the exception of gunnera, the rock scape planting is typical English cottage garden washing out to Alpine, & most of the trees are indigenous or typical species.

That looks like my dream house would. On the same property. A runner's heaven. Thanks for sharing pics of your beautiful work. Nothing like the sound of a car traveling on a stone driveway. All the open green space. Here in the States Wal-Mart would threaten a lawsuit against your town council so they could plow everything down to build their million square foot store that sells 97% Chinese junk merchandise ... saying that their rights to "free speech" were being violated. I hate Wal-Mart about as much as Monsanto... :)

p.s. "Last thing is to move the dragon ....." Love it!

That is beautiful, a tribute to your hard work, just fantastic,

I'm sitting here thinking what else to add, and I can't find the words....

Congratulations

As someone who spent my childhood doing relatively large renovation projects with my father, I have to say I can't even begin to imagine the amount of work you put into this.

Absolutely incredible, man. Way to go!

What gorgeous home and property! That makes the Wayne Estate look like a dump.

You arrogant, low down, self centered, look at me, billionaire jerk,
Just saw this thread................I really want to tell you how much I hate you but i cant this time. You have amazing taste Andy! I have NO vision when it comes to the sorts of things you put together in that yard. The house looks pristine, even the driveway has nice touch to it. Congrats on a labor of love that truly has paid off. It must be satisfying coming up the drive ( in your Rolls Royce) and seeing this every day. My only question is how the hell did you find the time??????????? you must work 18 hour days. You usually post some serious drum porn, this is major house porn!!
