Drum Porn: Allan Holdsworth/Jimmy Haslip/Virgil Donati

I decided Virgil Donati's contribution with Allan Holdsworth needs a thread of its own!
Here's a highlights video Virgil shared on his facebook page (the link is vimeo, though).

I know Virgil is Virgil, some like his playing, some don't. I could listen to his out of this world,
spectacular phrasing in his fills and grooves for hours, and I think his rhythmical mind
and sense of time is second to none. Also his sheer power, fitness and sound are out
of this world as well. Enjoy!!

Been following them for awhile, so I'll probably watch one of their shows soon(even if Novak, Holdsworth and Carpenter is my favorite Holdsworth live-lineup).

Also, did my eye deceive me, or did I see a woman standing in the front digging it? Maybe I'm living in the wrong country! Of all the fusion shows I've been to, I've never seen anyone of the opposite sex there actually enjoying the music. Only wives, looking like they've been dragged there by their spouse, and being bored out of their skulls.

Stunning! Crash sequence from 4:38 blew me away.
I think I can't count all the moments that blow me away :). Actually I'm sure I don't
even get everything Virgil plays. I think subdividing in (fast) (broken) quintuplets for
him is like playing the money beat for Phil Rudd, haha.

LOL! That woman caught my attention, too! I will see what Switzerland is like in that
regard when I get to see them live in 10 days, yay!!

Always been a fan of Allan's music, but this doesn't really work for me. Virgil sounded great with Vai and on those DT auditions and stuff like that, but to me, this feels forced and not really musical.

I've just returned from seeing the trio live, and I'm officially completely blown away!
To me, they set the new standard of intergalactical awesomeness :).

Virgil was just mindblowing, sometimes I sat there in disbelief. Allan too is out of this
world. Jimmy was superb too, he just didn't got to shine like the other two in my opinion.

I love Virgil

while I was attending MI there was about a 2 week period where Virgil was there everyday locked in one of the rooms practicing for about 5 hours a day ......straight

I would skip classes to sit outside the room and listen

those very first licks he pulls out around 1:35 reminded me very much of sitting and listening

I never saw him ....but everyone knew that room was off limits because Virgil was there practicing

thanks for this video

I'm really glad my drumset doesn't take that much time and effort to setup.
