Loads of people have said this, and of course it's totally true.

I think Tony Williams/Herbie Hancock are a heavenly team, they way the lock in together. Of course he's not a bass player, but Tony and Herbie's interaction hit me harder than Tony and Ron's interaction, if you know what I mean.

Not quite for me. Herbie was the next piece added to the musical puzzle from the "root" that gave it propulsion to move forward which was first established between Ron and Tony which was based on heavy listening, complete trust and elements of chance and surprise between bass player and drummer. Ron was the anchor and Tony was the shaper and Herbie tied it all together completing the picture.

It does however bring up a few questions:

1. Why does Bruford get up out of the seat and spin around every few minutes without hitting anything? Did Levin make him change his mind at the last second?

2. Where does Levin get those tiny drumsticks he tapes to his fingers?

3. Does Bruford own the record for most Simmons pads ever used at one time? Did he own stock in the company? ( I say yes.)
 
May be old fashioned, but for me Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen are just undeniable.

Of today, has anyone else heard Jack Mouse (drums) and Bob Bowman together? I have "Standard Procedure," and they really turned me on on that album.
