What hardware do I need?

Howdy. So.

I have a yamaha birch stage custom bebop kit. I've noticed that mounting the rack tom off the bass drum kills the resonance of the bass drum, and when mounting the rack tom off of a snare stand I can't get it in close enough.

I'm planning on getting a couple of those gibraltar flat-base cymbals stands soon, and I was thinking I'd like to try mounting my rack tom off of the cymbal stand. Is there a clamp, or some kind of hardware that could do that?

Or is there some other way I should consider mounting my rack tom?

Thanks :D

I mount mine off cymbal stands with clamps. There are also stands that come with tom mounting hardware, but can be expensive. Search "tom clamps" or "tom mounts" on your favorite music site and you'll find a bunch of options. In my opinion, Tama, Yamaha, and Gibraltar make the best hardware for the price.

In the end, what works best is what suits you best.

Look for stuff like this:http://www.musiciansfriend.com/drums-percussion/tama-stage-master-double-tom-stand

Did you try different tunings of your bass drum? It seems as if that would be the most convenient mounting if you could get it to work for you. I just played a Yamaha Birch Custom kit a few weeks ago and didn't have that problem. It had two rack toms mounted to the bass drum, It wasn't the bebop kit though. What size is your bass drum and what heads are you using?

You should either:

1) Tune your bass drum with the tom on it to get the sound you want. Or...
2) Get a cymbal stand-mountable tom mount. These typically don't work well with flat-based stands, however, unless you put the legs in *juuuuuust* the right spot. I would suggest using a Yamaha 600 series cymbal stand with your tom mount, and check out the link in my signature about my kit, which shows how I have done it the past 7 years with great-a success!

Thanks for the replies!
Maybe I should rephrase my question.

Is there a clamp that will mount my Yamaha tom off of a Gibraltar flat base cymbal stand? Thanks again!
