Let's see your Gretsch kits (saved the best for last!)

Thanks.
No - I opted not to go with the cymbal mount or the rail mount. They are nice but I have a 20" bd that has those features (58 Gretsch kit) and I thought, with the small 18" bd, I would like to keep it simple and clean....Besides, if it really bugs me later on and I want to add those features I can do that.

The surprise is something from Fred Gretsch & everybody that worked on them. I kind of know what it is but I won't say until the drums actually arrive.

Are those special features BD cymbal mount and Maxwell's rail consolette, maybe?
Man, this set is stuning! Very good taste. Congratulations.

Here are my Gretsch kits:

Hello, highpolymer. Welcome. This is one of those limited sets offered through some stores and so does not figure in Gretsch catalogue. Very nice, indeed. Cheers.

I believe this was some limited offer wrap. I think this because at my local drum shop there is one of those cat club jazz kits in that wrap, and it had some tag on it that said, like, there were only 80 produced or something.

Here are mine...

2006 Gretsch Catalina Rock in Black Sparkle
26" Bass, 12" & 13" mounted tom
16", 18" Floor toms
17 & 19 Sabian AAX Xplosion Crash
22 AAX Metal Ride
15 AAX Metal Hi-Hats
14x6 Ludwig 100th Anniversary Black Magic Snare

My drums arrived today and the surprise is that Fred Gretsch and Paul Cooper the Production Manager signed each of my drums. That was a very nice touch.

I only had time to unpack them so far. Here they are fresh out of the box next to my 125th Anniversary RB snare with the same finish. Like I said earlier...I asked if they could put round badges on these three drums. I was told they could not do that. Round Badge drums are a special production saved for Anniversary drums now. I really like the look of the Drop G badges too - classy I think.

Thanks.

Catalina Maple - Deep Amber finish.

I've been keeping it at a four piece for quite some time now. When I gig with my jazz combo, I'll usually switch to using a 16" bass drum, hats, snare and the crash.

8" x 10"
14" x 14"
18" x 22"

6" x 14" Snare
5" x 12" Snare - Sonor Force 3007

14" AA Fusion Hats
18" Vault Fierce Crash
21" Signature Tri-Top Ride

Phil ! That is one awesome looking kit! It's stunning in the photos it must be over-the-top beautiful in real life.
Just WOW man! I know how nice Renowns sound - I own a Purewood kit. That has got to be one of the nicest sparkle finishes I've ever seen.

VERY COOL!

Beautiful colour, nice 5-piece set...love at first sight!

Thank you for the kind words. I became interested in Renowns after all the comments I read here. Wandered down to the local drum shop and there they were. I planned to compare them to some other kits, but after playing them a couple of minutes, I just went to the salesman and said, "Don't wrap 'em...I'll wear 'em home." I've been gigging my Sonors in some tiny clubs lately, but I will take them to a larger club in about two weeks and let them rip. Not enough room on the stage to use the 14 and 16" toms, so the 14" stays in the closet for this gig. And it's just about two weeks before I pick a 1975 Rogers Londener V in Spanish Gold. The kit looks like it has never been played. Then I have to deal with the problem of having three kits in a very, very tiny flat. Guess I really don't need a couch, chair or tv anymore.

Very nice. I haven't seen that color before on Renowns. I am officially jealous.

Ahem...if memory serves me, you are the proud owner of a '57 Renown, so who you kiddin' about being jealous? :) You and Kona have been the cause of many a sleepless night for me!

Just for grins, I wrote to Gretsch customer service to ask how many kits were made in Diamond Fire, but I never got an answer.

No I own a Cherry burst Renown set. The 1957 is just a dream. Check the first post on this thread.
