Can you explain "multilayer stave"?

They're ply staves assembled into a composite top & bottom bearing edge component.

humm, not the real explanation.
This is a multislayer shell, 7 Plies in US Maple assembled in Stave with a reinforcement ring in Birch with a special epoxy resin (patented from Tamburo, 45° rounded). This is really helpfull to tune your drum and it works great.

Wow, I've never heard of that method. Why chop plywood into staves? Why just not make a traditional ply rolled shell, or use whole wood for staves?

I know Latin Percussion uses stave ply construction for its congas.

Thought I'd better include our steam bent Origin series English ash beauty here, before all the English ash becomes extinct!

A terrible week for such an important British woodland species :(

Ultra light drums. About half the weight, or less, of "average" ply drums.

Evangkol segmented hoops. Hard wax finish.

KIS: Still, every time I see either of the Guru kits, I stop and stare.

The only problem is that I'd need another 50 grand on top of the kit price for home renovations, I wouldn't want my crappy looking house to bring down that amazing kit.

This kit is a new form of life, the most beautiful one ever.

Also, what's the dealio with the trippy lugs? They look like some kind of no-penetration floating design. Awesome.

Yes, & a lot more than that. All aluminium hardware, special lugs to interface with RIMS mounts rather than using tension screws, special floor tom leg & bass drum spur brackets that don't contact the resonant shell (all aluminium too), & of course, completely undrilled shells! Here's a picture of the inside of a padauk Origin series floor tom below.

Thank you :)

Hey KIS can you PM me a quote for a 13x8" snare?

Cheers mate. D
Sure Dale, what vibe are you seeking? What haven't you got?!!! PM coming.

Believe me. That little kit is an absolute monster. I've never heard a bass drum like it. I was fiddling around with the 20"x12" all day unleashing it at unsuspecting passers-by on occasion. I think we all had fun with that.

And the whole kit weighs practically nothing. It's amazing. You expect drums to have some heft but you almost end up throwing the tom over your shoulder because it weighs so much less than you think!

Yes Duncan, good point, we should put a sticker on it "YES, I REALLY AM THIS LIGHT". I had such fun handing the tom to visitors at our stand, & watching their expression of complete surprise. Nothing needed to be said :)

Here is my humble Yamaha Stage Custom Birch kit. This pic is when I first got the set.

I've since moved the toms off the bass drum and onto a stand.

I've said it before: They are the best drums in the world..........My world at least.

Beautiful clean lines, & obviously cherished. Lovely looking drum set, & looks much more comfortable to play with the toms off the bass drum.

I'm loving all the natural wood kits here. Being Finnish they always remind me of the warm woody surroundings of a Finnish sauna.

Here's my 33 year old Yamaha 9000 kit in "Real Wood" finish.

Wow this kit is stunning, do you have any audio clips of it in action?

That must be a liberating feeling to step back and know you built that. This is seriously drum porn.
Thank you. Yes, high quality & totally honest unprocessed recordings just released here:

Go to the video "The Guru sessions" part 2. Examples of room mic & close mic captures. No EQ! Use good headphones :)
