Show Off your SONOR DRUMS.

Here are my Sonor Designer Maple Lites in Bubinga. (Some of you may have seen my thread where I was deliberating between these or a DW collectors kit, both 'second hand' but basically unused.)

I bought 8 shells (no snare) that were advertised as 'unused and kept in storage as an investment.' I think they were manufactured in 2005 and were apparently ordered for a tribute band tour that never materialized. In fact, if anyone has any pics of Chester Thompson around that time playing Sonor kits, I'd be really interested to see them as I can't find any.

Everything is totally mint, with my only concern being the 'gap' in the finish and apparent glue marks on the 8" tom. Pictures below.

This is my first Double Bass set up kit, so please feel free to comment. Ill post in the appropriate thread on that later. Remote hats and primary hats are just thrown in there at the moment until my legless hat stand arrives and i can get the pedals organized.

Hope you like it. Now, where did I put my 'how to play double bass licks' DVD?

Wonderful kit and that is an easy cosmetic fix as mentioned already. I am sure they sound as great as they look!

Stunning kit and just goes to show that every company is not perfect. I had a Fibes birdseye maple kit that had pink glue leaks at the seams!

Extremely minor stuff. The "gap" is probably due to shrinkage. Try using an appropriately coloured wax to blend in the seam before trying anything permanent. It's easy to remove if it stands out against the finish, & has the added benefit of building up physical layers as well as colour intensity/darkness with repeated application. In other words, it's easy to get right, & failsafe if you get it wrong.

Beautiful kit, & something I would have no hesitation in buying :)

I currently don't own any Sonor kits, just these two snares (the Designer is my go-to):

Wow, that is really something!

What are the depths of the 10" and 12" rack toms?

Here's a pic of Chester Thompson playing Sonor Signatures, like he did with Genesis:

Here's a link to Chesters (and other Sonor endorsers) Designer set:

http://www.sonormuseum.com/1995+/designer1994/des-setups.html

Chester was not endorsing Sonor drums in 2005.

Thanks for the info. Not sure on the depths of the toms, Ill have to measure them. The 12" is so shallow that the reso side hoop comes into contact with the tom mount with just a couple of turns on it. I think these are custom ordered as theres only 8 and 10 depths in the catalog for 10 & 12" toms. Certainly nothing Chester played!

Nice! How dry is that designer snare with the cast hoops and Aquarian head?

It still has a pleasant ring but is indeed quite controlled. A bit more so than my Yamaha MCA which also has die cast hoops (but just has a classic coated Aquarian head).

I love that old school Sonor logo! That is a great idea. Here is from my gig yesterday.

Played some session work again for a singer out of Atlanta, GA. Later in the day I played with my other band but had to use a backline DW kit :(

wheres the rest of your kit? :) I love that retro head and I prefer that old logo to the really old one.

Here's a kit I had for about 10 years. When I saw the Scandinavian Birch, it pulled me in. I got a lot of complements on its looks. Unfortunately, the massive double tom mount cracked and failed during a gig, and I felt it was time to move on. At the time, prices for Sonor parts were too high compared to other brands and I felt stuck.

That is not Birds Eye Maple, but Scandinavian Birch.

Sonor Force 3000.

You are correct! My bad.

It was a beautiful finish. I loved the matte coating, too.

Just picked up a brand new S Classix kit!! Kind of in disbelief that I finally have a German Factory-Made set of Sonor's. Going from the Bop SE to this is like going from a Corolla to a Lamborghini..!

The set pictured is:

12 x 9 Rack Tom
14 x 14 Floor Tom
20 x 17.5 Bass Drum

And it also came with:

16 x 16 Floor Tom
22 x 17.5 Bass Drum

Nice Classix!
I wish they were still in the catalog. All you need is a 10 and 13 and you have two sets!

Lovely looking kit. Nice Ludwig snare collection too:)

Quick question for you Sonor veterans...what is the actual measurement on These drum diameters? Would a 22" Bass drum true diameter be 21 3/4"? 21 13/16"? Am I even close here?
Thanks!
