My new Gurus

I imagine a few of you might be thinking this thread's a tad overdue. Organisation is not my strong suit. Anyway, here's pictures of the first and only Guru kit in Australia!

Photos from the usual angles plus my first attempts at drum porn, which was fun with such a photogenic kit!

The only audio example so far is a recent free jazz home recording http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LdSl75BAeU&list=UUeZPnPqMHxVdigM8gkNRpiQ&index=1. The toms are tuned too low in this (still getting used to tuning double headed toms - duh) and it's a vintage Drouyn snare but the recording otherwise at least gives an idea of the resonance of the toms and bass drum. They are resonant and beautiful instruments. Next audio will hopefully feature more refined tuning :)

Many thanks to Andy and Dean for putting such care and expertise into the kit and somehow managing to pack it in such a way that it made it here in perfect condition, plus wading through the international red tape etc.

Those are just plain sweet, Grea. Nice photos, too!

What kind of wood is that? Looks a bit like oak, but I'm wondering if it is something less common.

I believe it's English Ash with their signature Ovangkol hoops.

...wow, how did i say that with my tongue and chin lolling about on the floor? That is one beautiful kit. Enjoy that one :)

Cheers ID. Ah, I didn't figure on questions lol. Andy may want to fill in these gaps. I think it's English ash, not that I'd know one if I fell over one but I do remember a recent scare about a disease affecting English ash trees and Dean went on a mercy dash to stock up and ensure stable supply.

Grea, that's a very fine kit you have there.
The bass pedal looks like it's doing the trick.
Great gear all around!

What about some awesome outdoor pics - Guru @ Uluru? ;-)

Noice! Very noice!

Tell me, is that one of the new 'In-tense' snares?

Also, what are the sizes?

Lovely, lovely!

They look amazing! Congratulations!

Grea's thread so minimal interference from me :) Spec's:

Steam bent English ash Origin series Classic range drums. 20" x 14", 14" x 12", 12" x 8" with Ovangkol segmented hoops. All aluminium shell hardware. M5 (fine) stainless steel tension screws.

Snare is one of the new (but pre launch) In-Tense series but in segmented shell form (English ash with ovangkol centre band) & Guru signature high tension ovangkol segmented hoops. Low mass triple chromed brass lugs with stainless steel centre rods. M5 (fine) stainless steel tension screws.

We've never shipped a kit to Australia before. We packaged it so you could literally play football with it without risk of damage. A huge thanks to Grea for her patience while we got through the paperwork delays & stuff. She's paved the way for others to (hopefully) follow :)

Which head is that for the kick batter, looks like an EMAD or EMAD2?

Those are beautiful Grea, I am very happy for you. I have been waiting for for you to post these pics.

Thanks guys.

Nicely fielded, Andy (and maybe Eric's question?), you've been very disciplined! Hope I did okay with the drum porn, despite obvious lack of semi-clad nubiles.

To the Aussies, I'm hearing a lot of gunnas but I'm not seeing any of yous slack bastards dropping over for a jam and a bill!

Gorgeous! And what I heard of it on that sound clip sounded great.

I love the sizes. Those are the ones I'd be interested in for a bop kit, although Andy mentioned that I may actually want to opt for a 10" tom given the specs of the kit I expressed interest in.

Enjoy, Grea! That is one remarkable musical instrument you have there.

Bill plays a part in this? Count us in then, although it's a bit of a walk for me. See you in September!

Fabulous. Congratulations!

I always say the same thing when I see the Guru's.. Playable Art.

So this IS a guru biased forum!

Just kidding of course.

Beautiful drums, hope you get lots of enjoyment out of them in the years to come.

That is truly, truly, a beautiful set of drums!! I'll bet they're an inspiration to play...congrats!
