I used to see those little crap kits in the Sears and JC Penney Christmas catalog and always wished I could get one. Started in the school band in junior high playing the saxophone and right after that, I'd finally saved up enough Christmas/birthday money to buy my first set for $500. 3 months later convinced my band teacher to let me split time on the sax and drums in class. He realized that I was a pretty good drummer and pretty soon I ditched the sax for good. Played snare and bass drum through junior high and have been playing in bands and on my own ever since.
