Gig report :D

Can one "rawk" a jazz gig? If so, then we rawked it :D

I'd been hideously nervous - very unlike me, I can't usually be arsed to be nervous - but as soon as we did the sound check I knew it was going to be fine. The venue was lovely: it's a former church with great acoustics, so great in fact that one of the organisers warned me not to play too loud ("Yeah," said our keys player, "we don't call her Thrasher for nothing!"). As you'll see from the photos, there was a dome above me which drew the sound particularly from my floor tom and sent it ringing round so much that I had to pop a bit of moongel on it; after that it was perfect (so I was told, and so it seemed to me too).

There were actually people in the audience too, not all of whom were family and friends, and they seemed to like us although they were remarkably well-behaved and decorous. But that's West Kirby for you. To be honest, I wouldn't have cared if we'd played to an empty house because it just felt SO GOOD to be sitting at my kit, playing music I love, with people I admire.

Oh, you'll be wondering about my hair. It behaved too, thank goodness.

Best bit? Our biggest fan is the 5-year-old daughter of one of our singers; she said that I looked like Wonder Woman <3 <3 <3

James, what the actual??!!

May I also say that I misread the title as "Gin Report".

Alas. That would have been even better.

Completely fabulous! Love the red dress / smiley shot - what a great photo.

Thanks! I took that before we'd even started: everything felt just right, right from the start.

Nothing better than nailing a gig & walking off the stage full of pride :)

I should do it more often. Seriously though, I'm immensely relieved to have discovered that I am up to the job. This particular job, at least.

So so so so so so so so so pleased for you, your Madgesty!

Thank you! These guys always make me punch above my weight, it's always so interesting and fun playing with them - did I say that I smiled pretty much the WHOLE TIME? And boy, did I give it some welly in the Latiny/Braziliany numbers, which are the ones that are my weakest, in my head at least. It was duly noted and commented upon by my bandmates and now I feel that perhaps I do deserve to be there after all.

Going for a quick siesta now as we're playing again tonight. Even jazz supremas need to recharge!

Wow Madge you do look like WonderWoman! The 5 year old was spot on-they always expose the truth=you look aglow. Looks like a great venue and great fun. I really like playing out of my comfort zone cause it pushes me to step up to the plate, to improve, to learn and to listen. What no sound? We are you greatest fans.

Very cool. Congratulations!

Wow... Very stunning. Very Wonder Woman-esque indeed.

Congrats on rawking the gig!!

Beat me to it Art. I was going to say, well heck I still will... Madge you look positively luminous. What a smile!

We like it when you're pleased :)

To all the rest of you guys...I get to see that smile up close and personal in September. Just sayin.

Na na na-na na!

You lot are really kind, and I appreciate it very much indeed. A lot of you have known me since my first faltering miss-hits and supported me so that now, although I still miss-hit, I do it without faltering!

Looks like an awesome setting to play in. What are you playing there? (Kit-wise...)

I am playing my drop-dead gorgeous Guru zebrano Tour series kit, avec Guru rosewood snare. Wait, let me show you some photos so you can see them better.

Yep, that venue + that kit = that smile. It all makes sense.

Best of all, whenever I do hit a wrong note, it still manages to sound good!

Oooh I hope so! We'll have to start sorting out dates fairly soon :D

Congrats Madge. This is why we play music.

Wonderful news! Congratulations Mrs. Madge! The venue indeed looked cool and you looked absolutely stunning! That beautiful smile said it all...total joy :) Hoping this opens the doors for more gigs.

Those drums are absolute beauties and I know they sound even better than they look.

Thank you both, and you're absolutely right. I was sitting there, playing, loving every second because it felt AMAZING, and thinking that I'd never experienced anything quite like it before, because this was the first time I'd been completely happy with both myself and my bandmates.

The following night wasn't quite so good, but let's move swiftly on!

Well, it slightly depends who plays them, but ... I owe you, big time, don't I!
