Help- I lose trigger setting when I power-off, Yamaha DTX520

Bought a used Yamaha DTX520 with upgraded XP120 snare pad. At stock settings, snare was too quiet and snare volume control (on snare) did not function. I can set the trigger to get the snare volume up, but everything reverts to original settings after i power off the control module (DTX500, v. 1.2).

Although custom trigger settings make the system sound right, the snare volume control on the XP120 pad still does not work.

Any clues how I can keep my settings permanent after powering off?

Any ideas why the XP120 volume control does not work?

Your module battery (which retains the settings when you power off) is dead.
It's an easy enough fix to replace it yourself. You can actually change the battery with the module still plugged in ( to keep settings) but since you've already lost them probably doesn't matter.

Thanks for the fast reply. I opened the module and there is no battery. the manual says there is a small amount of power supplied to the module even if the power is turned of, as long as it is plugged in. Any other ideas?

I would not have thought that Yamaha would have hidden the battery so well. I'll take the module apart again like the video said. Thanks.

What volume control are you talking about? Do you mean the snare tension knob? I've got the XP120 snare pad and there IS NO VOLUME knob on it. You can turn that knob until you're blue in the face, but all it does is adjust virtual snare tension... I'll prove it... turn the knob to the left as you hit the snare repeatedly. It will suddenly sound like you flipped the throw-off. bada bing, bada boom... problem solved.

Hi,

Is the trigger setting set to SN-5 in the trigger settings for the snare input? Also after making the change make sure to Store the setting. It will store into a user trigger setting. Let me know if this helps and if you have more questions feel free to PM me.

A DTX Specialist on the forum- that's pretty cool.
No, I was saving it to snare 1. I will try snare 5. That part of the manual confused me.
Thanks.

OK, I saved it as snare 5, but same problem.I go through the snare changes and I get the "completed" prompt, saving it to input 1.

I do not know which of the trigger setup locations it is saved to, and I don't know how to tell.

When I turn the power off and then on, the module opens with the last drum kit I was using (like Beech), but the pads seem to be on their default settings again.

How can I tell which user trigger setting the module powers up with?

I appreciate your help, Yamaha!
