This is a contuniation of an older thread, but this thread contained too much irrelevant information so I deemed it necessary to start anew. To summarize the old one:

And today, completely built, it finally arrived at my home! After being held by customs for nearly two weeks, and after two failed attempts at delivery at my house, I went to pick it up at the local post office. Some pictures:

Congrats Phil, it is stunning! Must feel great to finally have it. It sits like an emperor amongst the Tamas! : )

Thanks aydee! Yes, it completely made my day! I actually had to be very careful when bringing it home - I was shaking with excitement...

Wow- that is effing sweet.

by far one of the nicest snare drums I have ever seen. I can't imagine how good it sounds. do you have any sound clips?

more pics please.

Wow, that's an absolutely stunning drum! Must sound like a gunshot!

Glad you finally received it after the saga you went through. enjoy!

Fi-freaking-nally. That was about time, wasn't it. I'm glad you finally have it at your home. Beautiful pictures but please take more :).

Big Phil, I would be afraid to even hit it. What gorgeous work again by Francois. Take a break once in a while from smiling or you will look like Bob the Viagra man.

Edit. It looks bigger than 6,5 inches.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I am indeed very happy that I finally have my snare drum. It looks even nicer in person and sounds awesome! I'm thinking about giving it a name... and have been staring at it for most of the evening. I also have a lot of experimenting to do with tuning. Poor neighbours...

Edit. It looks bigger than 6,5 inches.

Upon measuring I came to the conclusion that it is indeed 7 inches deep rather than the 6,5 I asked for. A bit of a shame, but I am sure I can find a solution for it with Unix.

My God, she's a Beast! Congrats on that magnificent specimen of a drum.

She sounds like one too!
I think I actually don't even mind about the extra depth - I am currently pondering whether or not to have that fixed - I got a quote from a Dutch stave manufacturer but he advised me to try it out first and see if it's absolutely necessary.

I´ll post some extra drum porn:

That strainer butt in the top picture looks a little off - must have been a monday. I don't mind.

Oh, and one more picture: the knife with which I opened the package, which has a bubinga handle. All very ceremonial :)

Ouch...that kinda sucks.

A nice snare drum, nonetheless. Congratulations on surviving the wait!

Well a 1/2" difference is highly unnoticeable... I can have the shell cut down by a Dutch stave drum builder but both he and François say it's probably not a good idea. It can be done, but will be tricky because of the strainer, and the proportions with the lugs will be off balance.

Altho I regret that mistake, you'll get increased bottom sound from your snare.
Do you give permission tu use some of your pics to put on my website.

IMHO, it's a sign of fate that you ended with 7" inch instead of 6.5" - The half of a inch will probably give you a little more of bottom end, a larger gap of tuning giving more substance to it's organic tone making it again a little bit more versatile.

Phil, though its a real bummer to finally not quite get exactly what you've been waiting for all this while, I think mindrummer has it pegged. The sonic tuning range of a 7" is more than that of a 6.5, so you'll have a greater range of possibilities to play with.

Of course! I can also send you higher resolution if you want... you have my e-mail address.
And indeed: I can make the best of it with a 13x7 snare. I really like its sound so far so it's not really a problem.

I would leave her be, as far as the depth is concerned. As for the butt plate, I'm sure you can easily straighten that out.

I'm not too sure about that, but frankly I don't mind it being a little off. It does not disturb the functionality and nobody would notice...
