Online lessons - feedback please

Hi guys,

I have taken lessons from mikeslessons.com up until recently but took a break when they redesigned their site. i put in the work and it paid off big time.

Before I join back and test their new platform, I looked around and found the Jazz drummers ressources and Hutchology. I took Hutchology's first lessons and it was informative but with all due respect a bit lacking in substance as he would play a fill, then slow it down but never thoroughly explain the concept slowly with notation. Great drummer and musician with tons to learn from, just wondering if all lessons are "here's the lick, now figure it out" or do subscribers get more substance.

Any of you guys members of this or other sites ?

I took lessons from drumeo but I did not enjoy them as much as mikeslessons, I thought the site was overwhelming and I could not find all the files and references the instructors related to in the lessons.

Not looking for skype or private lessons, just learning new grooves with a bit of help when I feel like it to broaden my horizons.

Thank you.

Everybody is different.

In a SKYPE lesson on-line drum lesson with me you can do what you want, learn a lick (chosen by you - I will transcribe it and explain it), a rhythm (same thing), have an specific course (example: on reading, jazz, etc) or any questions you have on mind I will answer.

It can be a one time thing or a course, you just pay each lesson you want to take and that´s it, nothing in advance just one lesson at the time.
I´m teaching with SKYPE one on one, I speak 5 languages:

English
Spanish
Italian
Portugues
German

* The PRICE is 1 hour = 28 Dollar * with Paypal

I tried mike's lessons and didn't enjoy them at all (personal taste is all..)

I spent my first year of drumming with drumeo and loved it and am considering signing up again since i miss it. That being said.. it can be overwhelming at first but there are threads in the forums that help figure out where to start and such. The weekly "Student Focus" is nice also, basically videos student send in and get reviewed and you get advice on what areas to work on. They will also make personal lesson plans for you.

That plus getting to ask questions of some of the most famous drummers ever.. yeah. i'm a big fan of drumeo and the community there.

There are alot of people that will put it down but it's usually people that have never even used the free trial and are talking without knowledge from what i have seen.. it's a good place to learn. At least for me it was :)

MikesLessons is good. He is as good a teacher as he is a drummer, it just isn't very personal and after a while the material in the live lessons will repeat. The best benefit that keeps people is the Facebook group and the family aspect of all the members. Plus you can take anything and make it easier or more advanced.

I don't know if I am more impressed by Alex's resume or the fact he speaks 5 languages!!!

I think my next plan is to find a local drummer to take lessons as they can see your technique better and you really have to keep your accountability. Online lessons you can cheat, or half ass it and no one knows. When it's just you and your teacher and you didn't practice they will catch you :)

Groov-E, I am glad you asked this question!!! For the last couple of days I have been looking at the different on-line drum lesson sites. I am not yet a member of any of them, so my opinions are base on what is available to the public or free trial. One caveat for my selection is that I most likely will never be able to participate in live lessons, as they seem to mostly occur while I am working. Here are my opinions.

180Drummer - I kind of like the fact that they have different artists doing lessons and it is only 19.99 per month. Kind of a scaled down Drumeo. The host of the lessons has a lot of insight into the kind of questions that the audience may have. The negative is that I sent them a couple of emails, but did not receive a reply.

Mikes lessons - I love the Mike and Mike podcast, but from what I see of his site as a non-member, it doe not have a deep lesson library.

Drumeo - Seems to have most anything, but may have too much for me to focus.

Stephens Drum Shed - Stephen seems as personable as Mike. From what I can see his library is a little deeper than Mikes Lessons.

I plan on signing up in the next couple of days. Would love to hear some other's opinions on 180Drums and Stephens Drum Shed. those are my two front runners.
