Todd Sucherman here!

Hey Todd!! I'm gonna ask probably the same question already posted (but I can't seem to find it LOL)..

In M&M II, besides your Vault Precision Ride, you are using another (what looks to be) 22" Prototype ride with some heavy HH hammering and a raw bell. Is that something you are working with SABIAN on, or is it a ride model that was already in Area 51 and you stumbled upon it? Is it a Medium or Medium Heavy weighted ride? Any official name of it? I really really dig it.

OR.. maybe that's the 20" prototype ride you found in the SABIAN office one day? I remember you used that ride on the first M&M.

Thanks again!!

Hi Todd

My drum teacher at college showed me a few clips from your DVD (not sure which one) but the bit where you do the Blushda :) After seeing you, Gavin Harrison and Gregg Bissonette playing it, I have, almost, exhausted using it in as many ways as I can.

My question is what other rudiments do you think are really interesting and can make fills have a nice texture to them?

All the best

Cheers

Sam

Hi Trip,

It's a 22" prototype of the prototype 20" I used in the MM1 DVD. I had them make me a 22" basically. It's a bit of an anomaly as it has a strong bell, nice definition and good wash. It's too light for the Styx gig but it's a great all purpose ride. If you want one--have your dealer contact Mark Love at Sabian. He knows exactly what it is and can make you one.

Thanks!

Hi Sam,

I can best answer your question with the 35 minute section on hands that goes through all the rudiments, compound stickings, hybrid rudiments I employ in my playing. The I take that same amount of time going through those on a drum set and showing different orchestrations and note rates you can use within time feels of actual playing. I could never describe all of this…and hence, why it is in DVD form. I hope you'll consider picking it up from my web store at the link below. I hope it helps you break through some walls and that it inspires your playing.

My best to you--

Todd

Thanks so much for that bit of info! I will give it a whirl after some funds are saved :)

Matthias--

Jerry was in Mahavishnu Orchestra in the early 70s and then put out a few records under his own name in the 80s. My favorite is the live one called "It's Alive". I did not play on any of his records as I did not know him until the 90s.

Trip---

No problem!

Cheers from Cincinnati-

Can't wait to see you Todd and the rest of Styx at PNC Park this month. And this time, the place will be sold out not only because of your great music but, believe it or not, the Pirates have actually had a winning season (so far...). Take care and thanks for the clips.

For anyone interested, here's two clips from a trip I just took with my wife to Conesus Lake, NY. We are both on the dock playing with our pal-- the incredible Joe Brucato. Great song for a summer's day, and then Taylor joined in on the next one. Hope you enjoy, and that you are all having a beautiful summer. We are!

Cheers,
Todd

Awesome! Is that the new Pearl Honda Signature 28x24 snare you're playing nowadays?

BTW, I just received my M&M II DVD in the mail the other day... cannot WAIT to crack it open and watch!

Hi Todd!

I've stumbled across some snares by Qdrums (manufacturer from Poland) on German Ebay. I was blown away by the cosmetics of one of those snares and quite surprised to learn that this snare model was designed by/built for you.

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Custom-shop-...81410?pt=Drums_Percussion&hash=item3cc9dc14c2

Here's a few pics I've merged from the auction and one detail pic I found on their website.

Can you give us some more info on that snare? It looks absolutely gorgeous/killer! And the buy-it-now price is unbelievably low. That manufacturer seems to be pretty inventive (e.g. full tom sounds with very shallow shells) - being more established in the drumming community, that snare might cost a few times more (might happen soon).

On their website I also found that they produce some signature sticks with your name on them. What about those? Have you started using them?

(Hopefully my questions don't interfere with existing endorsement deals. If so - I apologize [for my curiosity]).

Dominick--

Hope you dig the dvd!

Arky--

OK. Basically Sebastian (from Qdrums) offered to build me a drum. That's what I chose from his website and he asked for my signature. So he made me the drum and it's great. Now he has been selling them….which is fine. But I have no affiliation with his company, nor do I benefit from any proceeds. I will have to address him about the sticks (which is news to me) as that is an infringement on my Pro Mark signature stick endorsement--and I use my Pro Mark model exclusively. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Cheers,
Todd

Hey John,

He's cool, even though that was a little dicey... just over zealous perhaps. Anyway, they are cool drums.

Cheers!

Love the new OBSESSED Sabian video Todd! Would have liked to see you play those cymbals a little, did they make an alternate version of this promo vid?

I was however, waiting for you to go, "I am totally obsessed with BLUSHDA-BLUSHDA-BLUSHDA-CRASH-CRASH-BOOM-BLUSHDA-BLUSHDA" or "I'm obessed with Playing Demo".

Great clinic here in Weymouth, MA by Todd Sucherman. The guy has been on the road since April - gotta be tired - but he brought it something crazy last night. Nearly thirty minute solo and lots of time spent answering questions. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and passion Todd.
