A tattoo on your heart?

Another of my favs from The Beatles:

And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me,
shine until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Great stuff in this thread!..isnt it intersting that almost all responses have lyrics that involve, loss, pain, loneliness, searching........there must be be a universal connection...something to do with the human spirit.

Ps-GD, just yesterday I sang ' Octopuses Garden' on the piano to my 6 year old niece. She was completely unmoved by thisridiculously happy song. I tried Let It Be next, and thatdid the trick.................strange...........

I couldn't pick just one, so here are three of my favorites....

"The bridge at midnight trembles, the country doctor rambles
Bankers' nieces seek perfection expecting all the gifts that wise men bring
The wind howls like a hammer, the night blows rainy
My love she's like some raven, at my window with a broken wing"

from Love Minus Zero/ No Limit by Bob Dylan

"I feel inclined to blow my mind
Get hung up feed the ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
Be nice and have fun in the sun"

from Itchycoo Park by Small Faces

"Escaping through the lily fields I came upon an empty space
It trembled and exploded, left a bus stop in its place.
A bus came by and I got on, that's when it all began
There was cowboy Neal at the wheel of the bus to never-ever land."

from That's it for the Other One by Grateful Dead

Try 'A Day In The Life'. Fantastic.

You say you'll give me
A highway with no one on it
Treasure just to look upon it
All the riches in the night

You say you'll give me
Eyes in a moon of blindness
A river in a time of dryness
A harbour in the tempest
But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

It's not the most significant chunk of words I've heard, but it's a chunk that's played through my head over and over...and over.

Prophets of War by Dream Theater:

Is it time to make a change?
Are we closer than before?
Can we help them break away?
Are we profiting from war?

The PretendersBack On The Chain Gang I think its about James Honeymen Scott There Guitar player who died in 1982 of an over dose

The powers that be
That force us to live like we do
Bring me to my knees
When I see what theyve done to you
But I'll die as I stand here today
Knowing that deep in my heart
Theyll fall to ruin one day
For making us part

This line, from "Tangled Up In Blue," always brings back vivid memories:

"I lived with them on Montague street
In a basement down the stairs,
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air."

I am not often touched by lyrics but these kind of hit me the other day:

Wake up the sun's shining bright lets go out of bed into the light
Shape up we won't forget still there's lots of love left to hold tight

(...)

Everything I love between us will get us trough the night
All the things we lost will teach us see the pretty things in life
All the places that we've been to
The people we relate to
All the love that we give in to

It's from Sweet Goodbyes by Krezip.

But usually it's a combination of visuals and music that hits me. This also really touched me emotionally:

Heck, it even really gets to me as I watch it now!

meatloaf - two out of three aint bad...

And all I can do is keep on telling you
I want you
I need you
But -- there aint no way Im ever gonna love you

yea :(... im an emotional pansy.

I saw some Kristofferson here already; "Me and Bobby McGee".

But this lyric had a huge influence on me back in the day:

"So thank your lucky stars you've got protection
Walk the line, and never mind the cost,

And don't wonder who them lawmen was protecting
When they nailed the Savior to the cross.

'Cause the law is for protection of the people
Rules are rules and any fool can see
We don't need no riddle speaking prophets
Scarin' decent folks like you and me, no siree."

So please remember me, finally
And all my uphill clawing
My dear, but if I make the Pearly Gates
I'll do my best to make a drawing

Of God and Lucifer, a boy and girl
An angel kissin' on a sinner
A monkey and a man, a marching band
All around the frightened trapeze swinger

ahh one more. and its a verse in its entirety but...

I'd like to drop my trousers to the world
I am a man of means (of slender means)
Each household appliance
Is like a new science in my town
And if the day came when I felt a
Natural emotion
I'd get such a shock I'd probably jump
In the ocean
And when a train goes by
It's such a sad sound
No ...
It's such a sad thing

Nowhere Fast- The Smiths

All you touch
And all you see,
Is all your life
Will ever be.

~ Breathe, Pink Floyd

what I've felt,
what I've known,
never shined through in what I've shown...

Metallica ~ The Unforgiven

"Take me across the water,
Cause I need some place to hide'
I done the rancher's daughter
And I sure did hurt his pride"!

URIAH HEEP - Stealin'

I have three different songs.

The first one is just a few lines from Red Stars Over the Battle of Cowshed by Protest the Hero. I especially love the line, "Dollars are worth more than sense."
A system where an honest person can sweat for hours and then play slave to the man in the television tower. A system where private ownership erases public healthcare because dollars are worth more than people; dollars are worth more than sense.

The second one is Sun of Nothing by Between the Buried and Me. This the interpretation by the singer.
"This song is about a man that gets tired of his life. He decides the only natural way to rid himself of this world is to fly to the sun and burn his body. He builds a rocket ship (he has already been named the "spaceman" in his town) and starts his journey. The song is the thought process during his voyage towards death. He evaluates all the different aspects of his life and towards the end realizes he had it better than most. He has regret but there's no turning back cause he is already floating towards the sun."

Pretty far-fetched but IMO a great concept nonetheless. It makes me realize that even though things don't always go perfectly for me, I have it better than a lot of people. Also I don't want to post all the lyrics but they can be found here. http://www.sweetslyrics.com/531842.Between The Buried And Me - Sun of Nothing .html

The third one is White Walls by Between the Buried and Me and it also has lyrics that mean a lot to me, and this is the interpretation from the singer.
"This song is about growing as a band and as individual musicians. I wrote this song after we did Ozzfest (also known as a big metal talent show). The music business really shows how stagnant and boring popular music is. Everyone tries to sound and look the way they are supposed to in order to "get big". Obviously all bands aren't like this, but it seems that more and more people are starting bands to become rock stars, not because they love music. This song is about growing and realizing what you need to do in order to make yourself happy in music, cause when its all said and done, this is what people hear when we die. When I started playing music it was a blank canvas (white walls) and this journey I've lived so far are the paintings that will be seen when I die."

Lyrics can be found here. http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/b/between_the_buried_and_me/white_walls.html
