Coated Batt/Clear Reso, Why?

Why is it that on almost all batter coated toms and some batter coated snares, the reso heads are clear? Are clear heads made to resonate more so than coated heads?

Thanks for any help

Well, it kinda stands to figure ... just think it through ... take a clear head (Ambassador, for example) ... and now, that same head, but put a coating on it .... which head is gonna resonate (be brighter. soundwise)?
From there, you can control, in baby steps, how warm a sound you're gonna have.
Clear Ambassadors batter and reso. ...... Coated head batter, clear reso. ..... coated heads batter and reso.

I recently started playing w/coated Ambassadors as resos under coated Emperors. Works really well on the 14" floor tom. And not bad on the 12" tom - still on the fence w/this drum.

I use a coated ambassador equivalent head for my 14" floor tom. It didn't really affect the sound of it, but it sounds like that it may have shortened the sustain; which is what I'm looking for.
