Solo Piano Pieces

There is definitely something special about the piano, it's versatile and completely ingrained in so many styles of music.

I can sit and be entertained as a musician by so many different instrumental solo pieces, but I've found that practically anyone with any kind of interest in music can get a lot of enjoyment from a great piano piece.

What are some of your favourite Piano/Keyboard solo pieces?

Wow man, just wow, I mean, that was incredible. I can't believe how much that touched me, was not expecting that.

This is one of my favourites, composed by Nobou Uematsu, one of the few songs that has ever actually made me a little teary :p

'Oraison' by Olivier Messiaen. The best recording is from the original from the 1930's, played on Ondes Martenot. I am a total sucker for Piano music too (my brother is a virtuoso pianist and I was brought up with it) but I think pretty much any Messiaen takes it for me.

Schoenberg's very early atonal work ('Drei Klavierstucke') really is something too. Especially the second piece, I much prefer the expressionism to his more traditional work.

I'm also a big fan of Bach's Chaconne played on solo piano. For me, the violin can get a little squeaky at times (depending on who's playing).

Nobou Uematsu is indeed a genius, one of my other favourites of his is Memory of light and waves (played by the same guy that played the first video I posted, quite an incredible player)
