Have you been playing them for five years? Or have they been sitting around in a closet for 4-1/2 and you've been playing them for six months?

Most guys who play daily change out their batter heads every 4-6 months, resos maybe 6 months to a year.*

So if you've been playing on them for longer than that, sure--change 'em out. You'll probably like what you hear.

* Though I've been known to leave a snare head on for rather longer . . . ;-)

Can I suggest you change the title so that forumites can tell at a glance what you are posting about.

That said I can't help you. I do know that bassists change their strings on a scale from every gig/couple of weeks to every 5 years. Some prefer that mellow tone!
