Evans Power Center vs Reverse Power Center

Hey guys, went to my local drum store the other day to pick up a reverses power center head for one of my snares and all they had available was the regular power center head.

My question....will there be a difference in sound between the power center and reverse power center head?

I'm assuming there should not be any difference, maybe just a difference in feel?

Or should I just return this head and order the right head I intentionally wanted to get?

it should not be an issue unless you play with brushes. no difference in sound as far as I can tell.

The EvansSpecialist might want to clarify a bit, but as far as I know the Reverse PD is for people who are cosmetically conscious of the dot on the head. They just put the dot on the bottom to make the head look like a standard coated snare head.

Brushes would be the main thing and is for me.

There might be a slight difference in attack when you hit the dot material versus a coated surface. I've never tried it on an Evans head but I can hear a difference on the Remo CS versions.

The Evans Power Center Reverse Dot is one of my favorite snare batter heads. I probably have it on six of my snare drums. I like the Reverse Dot because I play a lot of music that requires the use of brushes and I would believe that the wires in the brushes would snag the 5 mil thick patch on the surface of the typical Power Center head. Since I never played the Power Center head I couldn't say if there would be a stick or "feel" difference between the two. I very much doubt if there would be a sound difference since the materials are the same.

That's what I thought. I'm digging this head since it came on a tama metal works snare and I'm curious to see how this head works out on my other snares.

Yesterday I called another local music store and they have 2-power center reverse dot heads in stock. They are holding them for me, I will pick them up today and try them out on a couple snares. As for the power center head, I might return it or install it on one of the snares I don't use too often.

I don't play brushes but the dot on top just seems weird to me lol.
