ok so i moved into college 2 weeks ago and im going through withdrawals without my drums. I obviously cant put my acoustic drumset...so does anyone have any suggestions for a good cheap drumset for jamming out and maybe occasioanl recording...i was looking at the ION sound session which is really cheap(249) compared to the cheapest yamaha the dtxplorer which is 699,,,
any advice would be great

The ION, IMHO, is a toy. Don't waste your time on it.

thats what i wasnt thinkin but u have any suggestions

A friend of mine has an Alesis DM5 kit, which except for the hi-hat pedal which has some minor issues is a very decent little set for the money. You could also look at the low-end Roland sets or the Yamaha DTXplorer - all of which I have tried and thought were pretty decent.

the roland HD-1 ia a good compact affordable electronic kit, with a mesh snare :p its a good buy

I have a DM5 pro kit from Alesis and really like it with the exception of the hi-hat which requires some tweaking. good for small places. More money will get you the surge cymbals which looking back I probably should have done!
