Which will have less plasticky sound, a G2 coated or G2 clear?

Thanks

Funny, a few weeks ago I was in the same dilemma as you, even down to coated/clear G2's.

I went with the coated, and I'm never going back.
The coated heads in general have NO plastic sound whatsoever, along with being warmer and rounder in general.
They make drums sound more like...well, drums.
The G2's are miraculous coated, on everything from my 10" to my 16".
They rumble on the floors and sing on the racks. Just very round, warm, deep when needed, and sing beautifully in other situations. My 10" has a gorgeous ring to it, I honestly could listen to it for hours.

Go for the Coated G2's.

I agree with Drew, though I'm more of a single-ply coated guy.

Beware, though, the frosty "coating" that comes on some Evans models: it sounds nothing like an actual coating, and not nearly as good, IMO. To my ear it actually sounds more plasticky than the clear versions. Just duller.

And for a side hint. I have a 7 1/2 x 14 Steambent snare that I wanted a real fat old school sound so I took off the Evans Genera head I had on it and put on a G2 coated and what a difference. Loose fit, loose snares, real fat. Give it a try.

Remo's suede line is an awesome combination of feature of coated and clear. Something to consider as well.
