My new Gretsch New Classics - (pic heavy) with Video

Hi all,

After playing a Mapex M-Birch for a number of years, I decided to take the plunge to a pro-level kit. It reflects where I am with my drumming, and I've covetted these drums for a long time.

So here they are:

Gretsch New Classic in Satin Walnut Burst
12" x 8 rack tom
14" x 14" floor tom
14" x 5.5" snare
18" x 14" bass drum (undrilled)

Here is a quick video of my trying it out. This is straight out the box, so nothing more than a rudimentary tune up and quick set-up, hence the rack tom's position. I also didn't rehearse anything, so forgive the sketchy performance.

Hope you like it.

Thanks.

Congrats on your beautiful new purchase. I have to say, for straight from the box and no EQ, those sound great (especially the 12" tom). I imagine once you really spend a bit of time to dial them in how you like them, you'll have one fantastic-sounding kit that will serve you well in whatever setting. Enjoy... cheers!

Welcome to the Gretsch world, congratulations and enjoy them!

I think this particular line within Gretsch doesn't get the notoriety as say the Renowns, USA's and now Brooklyns. But they are great drums none the less.

12" tom sounds promising :) Takes a while to get new drums dialed in, & typically never easy with stock heads (unless they're oem). I'm positive you're going to enjoy these. I like the colour too. Congratulations!

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately, that video is the only chance I've had to play them so far. I've been teaching away constantly, and running a massive tidy up of my drum room, including selling my previous kit, so they aren't currently set up.

I've got a lot of projects under way though, so looking forward to a proper tune up and play on them. Very excited to own a Gretsch!

Nice. Where did you get them? That finish is one I haven't seen..it's not even listed on the website.

The music shop at which I teach ordered them in for me. They're a Fender dealer, and managed to get them discounted. The finish is stunning in the flesh. I thought it was regularly available rather than rare, although I have a feeling, thinking about it now, that it's Europe only...
