Let's see your Gretsch kits (saved the best for last!)

Not a problem. I had the 1957 for avatar for a while but it was just teasing me.

I've not seen the 57Renown in real life. I've talked to people (Gretsch Forum) that have bought them and were not disappointed. They look pretty nice...especially to an ole past 57 Chevy owner like me - two of em! My first one cost me under $300 in 1968 - a red/white 4dr ht 283ci....what a car! But.....the 2dr ht Belair was what everyone wanted...283 or 327......I'm off topic haha. The 57Renowns are beauties.

Eh... How do you like 'em?

Funny, was wondering how long it would take for that one! lol
I bought the full set(7 cymbals) from a guy on C's.L.literally untouched-I mean not a single stick mark or finger print anywhere and sales stickers still attached underneath!

Seems as though he read the infamous bashing before trying them out,and put them up for next to nothing- hoping an unknowing sucker like me (who knew nothing about them)would come along.

So,I get home and throw these supposed sonic version of an AMC Pacer on this set, fully expecting them to sound like the garbage can lids, from Stomp! and summoned up Led Zep 1

After playing through "Communication Breakdown" and "Good Times Bad Times"
I paused, thought for a moment, smiled and said F-yeah! these sound like cymbals! totally appropriate for Zeppelin and the like

That being said, when the paint starts to wear (as I'm sure it will eventually) I'll remove the black.and get what will be the Zildjian sound I know is underneath.

My cool little Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz kit. It sounds quite good although it was not too expensive. Drum on!

Love the kit. But don't like the R2D2 cymbal mount. Not to sure about the amount of weight on the small bass drum either. Lots of opinions on drums and tom mounts but this seems over kill to me. But if they sound good, Gretsch On.

I have removed one of the cymbal arms and the Jam Block from the tom holder, so now it only has the 12" tom on one side and a cymbal arm on the other. Peace and goodwill.

Here's how my Gretsch Renown in Dark Walnut will look after this summer.
I'll add on drums from my original Jazz-set, sizes 18" x 14, 14" x 14", 12" x 8" and then 24" x 16" and 16" x 16". The 13" x 9" from the Rock-set will be resting, sold, or made something good of.
Cymbals, all Zildjian:
15" K Light hi-hat
24" K Light ride
21" Sweet Ride
...I threw in a 18" K-Custom Dark, but there's no need for it.

Left side, the small kit, includes:
22" K Light Ride
14" New Beats

A bit of a Steve Jordan influence, perhaps?

I hope you dont pull a groin muscle stretching between the two bass drums

Gretsch Renown maple in 4-pc config

One of the more recent I have of my 2009 Renown maple kit in autumn burst finish...

That looks nice. And extra points for having a color coordinated carpet.

Nice Cobalt Fade kit. Love my Renowns, too!

Here is my Cherry Burst kit on an outdoor gig from last month. I go back and forth from a 4 piece to a 5 or 6 piece depending on my mood.

Same kit, as a 5 piece. Ignore my messy garage!

Hello all, new here well at least registered now. I have popped in here over the years to drool. I have not played in about 16 years until I saw these on CL.
Catalina Club Jazz kit in Mahogany in Marine Pearl. Can any of you help me to figure out the age of these. The guy I got them from said 20+ years. They are not in production anymore. I absolutely dig these things, they look and sound great, the snare not so much.
Thanks for any info that you can provide.
