Just to add an extra element to my kit, some percussion instruments that could be played in a jazz or pop beat.

Bongos, congas, cajon, and riq all are good hand percussion choices, and in the right hands sound great in a jazz set up.

Congas are the great standby of jazz percussion. In some jazz genres, like Afro-Cuban, there may not even be a drum set - just congas, bongos, bells and maracas.

Don't forget the simple things you can use with your existing set - like brushes, different types of mallets - yarn, felt, rubber, and other materials. There's also different types of bundled sticks, and rounded end jazz sticks.
Browse through a catalog or some online sites for lots of good ideas.
