Head like the 1980's Evans black non-hydo?

Well, the stock Remo heads that came with the set here (Maple Tama Copeland Sig) are ok, yet i miss the sound of the same-sized Tama set i had as a kid in the 80's. i used the black color NON-hydo heads. i can not recall what they were called, simply remember my choice was to use them top and bottom and it was a great combo over the normal top and thin bottom.

They had nice long sustain (had to muffle them a tiny bit) and good yet not overly dominant stick definition. They really sang nicely, great full tone without much upper frequency (unwanted) harmonics. Looked on the Evans site and it seems the G2 Clear might be like 1980's black ones i used oh those many years ago and loved.

By chance would anyone here know what the present day equivalent would be?

Many thanks, ALL help is ALWAYS appreciated.

The head you are referring to is the Rock series. Same as the Hydraulic, but...guess what? You're correct! No oil between the plies! I used this same combination for a while!

Sorry for the delay, seems the new album took an extra few weeks to go 'live' and have been busy with my 'day job' too. Sadly, have been SOOOO busy i only just a day or three ago have done the lowermost floortom and gong bass. Sounds like i wanted yet they obviously need a bit of time to stretch out and retune. Maybe i'll just tighten them up a lot, play a bit, then retune to proper sound.

The Gong bass is MUCH BETTER with the Evans head versus the stock Remo. Tama forces the Remo heads on the Sig set because Copeland is under contract with Remo. Remos are good and all of course, just preferred somethign different for the toms. MANY thanks, ALL help is ALWAYS appreciated.
