Drumheads combination, will this work? Advice! :)

I'm soon going to replace the 3 year old (o_O) heads on my Yamaha Tour Customs.
So far I've come up with this as a combination: (based on some other good advice here)

14" snare coated Emperor batter, clear Ambassador resonant
10" Tom clear emperor batter, clear Ambassador reso Same for 12" Tom + 16" Floor Tom
22" Bass, Emad2 clear (taking out the blanket in the bass drum, as this head is muffled.

So, can anyone suggest any changes to this combination, or mistakes I've overlooked?

I'm playing for various genres, erring towards metal.

Can someone also tell me, if I buy an Emad2, such as this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Evans-22-...ents_Drums_Percussions_MJ&hash=item5d2efdb5f2

Does it mean it comes with replacements for batter and reso side?
Should I replace the reso side with the Yamaha logo on it?

Thanks in advance! Any advice or replies much appreciated! :)

That EMAD is only the batter side. If you don't want anything in the shell you could try the EMAD reso as well. Its ported with a small foam ring similar to the batter side. Or try an EQ3 reso with the EQ pad against it.

There is nothing wrong with those heads choices. Sounds good. You don't have to change the bass reso if you don't want to, the stock yamaha resos are good heads. If you like the yamaha logo, keep it; otherwise, there are other options.

Great choice on the bass drum head. We have G2 (a comparable 2-ply batter head for your toms) and G1 (comparable single-ply reso head) heads that offer the same great quality as the EMAD. Let me know if you have any questions!

Yes I do, why do you feel the need to spam forums with what's clearly just promotional drivel?

I would think better of Evans if you just let your products speak for themselves, now that you've done that i think I'm just going to go for a Remo Powerstroke on my bass drum head, they're more durable anyway!

Can anyone else comment on my choice of heads, and recommend something better?

Or have I really got lucky and hit this one on the "head" with my newbie guesses? :p

I have to say I used to be a Remo guy, but Evans seem to tune way way way easier and seem pretty durable and I would strongly recommend trying the Evans out just for the ease of tuning!

Simma down man! Most of the time he just answers questions a lot of us have. I have found his posts to be informative and he has never trashed any other company. I don't see it as "spam" at all. I wish we had guys from every manufacturer on here. We could learn even more.

What you picked is fine. I prefer Evans, and I do not work there. I pay for mine. I used clear G2 over G1 for a long time. Now on the toms, I like EC2 over EC Resonant. IMHO, not buying a head because you do not like one guy's post is letting someone else tell you what to do. Good luck.

This! I would love to talk to more manufacturers on here!

Haha, I was jesting about not buying it because of his post :p
I don't mind them doing that, does show some good will, just not used to that in the UK as brands are much smaller, I'm considering Evans still for main heads, if I can get a bundle with all the heads from them at a reduced price I can't see why not, are Evans and Remo that differing in durability?

No, probably not. I like Evan better, but many like Remo better. My Pearl set has all Evans, but my Gretsch set has both Evans and Remo. Good luck.

Evans definitely has better quality control. I switched everything to Evans when I had a awful time with Remo snare heads. I was at a band practice and my snare head broke, so I went to my local store and bought another head. I put it on and continued my practicing, only to find my snare head broke again. I went back to the store, bought an Evan's head and haven't gone back since. I've never had another drum head problem since.

I apologize if my post came off that way but it's certainly not what I intended. I saw that you were interested in the EMAD and wanted to mention the offerings that we have for toms as well that would be a good match. There are a lot of people for whom the EMAD is their introduction to Evans. I actually work very hard to contribute to the discussions here and offer advise when I have some insight into a matter. I also try to make myself available to answer questions about drumheads in general and our product lines.

Best of luck with the drumhead shopping!

14" snare coated Emperor batter, clear Ambassador resonant

Just checking you know that Ambassadors come in two different thicknesses and you'll need a 3-mil snare reso Ambassador as opposed to a 10-mil regular Ambassador? Same goes for Diplomats and Emperors. Ds come in 2-mil and 7.5-mil. Es come in 5-mil and 2x7-mil.

This is where Evans Specialist jumps in and says buy a Hazy 200/300/500. (Drummerworld should charge Evans for this constant advertising!) Even though I've recently changed from Evans to Remo, (because of noticing a big difference in rigidity and hoop roundness at the join), I would however agree that the EMAD 2 is a cool head. I have it with the smaller of the 2 rings, nothing in the drum and tuned just above Gatzen's LPP. If you go much tighter with it you probably will wanna chuck something light in there otherwise it gets a bit boomy. (Boomy might be good for projection and audience volume, but it might feel crap too).

Nothing wrong with your choices. Although since you're tending to err on the side of metal (or just louder music), why not just get a whole bunch of Ambassadors (or G1's) put those top and bottom, and even on your bass drum. Tune everything wide open and enjoy the loudness! With no muffling and careful tuning, you'll most likely find yourself not digging in to the drums because they're so loud by themselves, which solves the durability problem. Listen to some Keith Carlock to hear the effects of straight ambassador-weight heads on everything. I think you'll be surprised. Of course, I also mean an Ambassador snare side head on the snare (the the Evans equivalent, whichever brand you like best).

Good luck!

I don't consider the posts of EvansSpecialist as spam. I see it as good and legitime advise - and we clearly see, where it comes from, so why not. I like it, when people from the industry step in.

Agreed!. He's a keeper to me.

I wouldn't mind if we had an "Aquarian Specialist" and a "Remo Specialist" also. :)

And before you know it anyone asking a question has to filter genuine honest opinion from a barrage of tactless advertising. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth knowing one is tolerated, I certainly wouldn't use this forum if more were let in. Besides which, look what Iron Thunder's thread has descended into, you want more of this? This doesn't benefit them or the site at all.

"The DrummerWorld forum is the best of its kind and we are very proud of what we have created." If it aint broke, don't change it.

But they're already here. Paiste Tim has provided some valuable advice. As has Evans Spec. and any number of custom drum or snare builders. None of them spam....those that do don't last long, none of them shamelessly plug to the detriment of all others. Most of them just provide factual advice from a manufacturers angle and the majority of it is useful and relevent.

And OP, your head combo's are fine.
