Nice drum dude. Gotta love that natural Maple look.

Its a local company here, amazing that it found its was all the way to the merry ol' land of OZ. Check out his website. His list of clients reads like a whose who of local jazz greats... Now I know who to hit up for lessons when I need to brush up on my Jazz chops.

Thanks RM, I've send them a note with the same pictures, wonder what he'll say!

Cheers,

Oh, man! Is that the COB? If so I used to have that snare. Stupid me sold it. What an epic mistake! They're re-issued again, but still...

For me, it's a run-of-the-mill, but never disappointing LM402. My only other snare is a Pearl Sensitone Elite 6.5x14 Brass. It's pretty awesome, too, but I'm looking for a way to make it secretly morph into an LB417 since that's what it really wants to be anyway.

I believe that it is a COB. Not 100% sure though.
it came with my mid 70s "Monster" kit.
It's a model 4165
Perhaps someone can enlighten us.
It is thick and heavy! There is nothing tinny about it.

Ludwig Supraphonic, 5" x 14", Made on 1 June 1971.

Chrome over Ludalloy. Chrome flaked away, so it's wrapped with some purple sparkle. I've added the P-86 strainer and die cast hoops. Batter head is Aquarian Hi-Energy. Later this summer, I'm going to re-re-finish it and add tube lugs.

This drum can do anything.

What a great idea! I love the way this drum looks.

I have a couple of snares that I always go back to to play as my mainstay Workhorses...

I've always liked the way this snare looked and always wondered how loud it was due to the 10 ply. Is it a drastic difference when comparing rim shot volume to a thinner snare?

I'd say no, not a big volume difference. It just speaks with such a clear voice.
I did a test yesterday with all my snares, and the order in which I like them is:

Pearl Eric Singer Signature 14 x 6.5 (maple, ply)
Pearl Masters Studio snare 14 x 6.5 (birch, ply) (a very close 2nd)
79 Ludwig 14 x 6.5 Supra SS (chrome over Ludalloy)
2005 14 x 5 brass on brass Ludwig BB (black nickel plated brass)
Canopus Zelkova 14 x 6.5 (hollowed out from a Zelkova tree)

I think I prefer wood snares. I just realized this last night.
